Sorry about your dog Tom. That has got to be tough. I'm not looking forward to the day thats for sure.
Now what was the good news on a sad day? Speaking of dogs, how is yours doing Jim? Still running around on three but it seems to bother him less and less all the time. He's got long setter legs so he's still way faster than my short stocky pure bred lab. Thanks for asking.

Good day today. Passed up a nice 8 pointer. Shot a nicer 8 pointer! Details when I am not so darn tired.
How are the Chickenbuckeroos doing up there? Any pictures of the good food?

Looks like the heaviest snow went to the east of Chickenbuck.
About 3.5 inches Saturday where our camp is located and more to come today. Rained here in central WI all day Saturday. Very light snow falling now.

as usual had a blast at chickenbuck, have a bunch of stuff I need to do now, couple of deer were hangin from the meat pole this weekend though, and more deer are out there, I heard a buck come towards me last night through the swamp, heard splashin and then antlers rubbing on a tree, but it got too dark to see clearly. hopin a swampsquid doesn't get him before one of us do!
we got a smattering of snow over the last couple days, not much at all to speak of. hopin more gets there before next weekend
how about them vikes eh?

Here's one for you Viking fans: The Minnesota State Police are cracking down on speeders heading into Minneapolis! For the first offense, they give you 2 Minnesota Vikings tickets. If you get stopped a second time, they make you use them.

Talked with Tzone this morning. Sounds like he's got about 11" of snow to clean out of his driveway when he gets home.

What else did you attach to that doe to make it a buck?

that was a buck. It was a nubbie Captain Bang Flop shot. We didn't have the doe until later that day.

I spent 4 days trying to get a shot at a rather large buck that we spotted. At one point Saturday, I even wimped out and left the handgun at camp and went out with the scoped .270 because I knew where he was, and I could only set up my climbing stand for a shot of around 200 yards if he moved the right direction.....he didn't
Anyhow, my run of "buck luck" ended this year.
Then, after deciding to just shoot a doe and fill the freezer, I had the hammer thumbed back on a big doe I was watching for a few minutes when out came the fawn, and I couldn't drop the hammer. That was Saturday evening and, of course, after that I didn't see another deer this morning.
Oh well. It was my first skunking since I started rifle hunting about 10 years ago. I got to spend a lot of time out in the woods watching the wildlife including:
-a bunch of LOUD trumpeter swans -a hawk catching a red squirrel -several eagles -a bunch of does I didn't even aim at because I KNEW buckzilla was right behind them....
I have been so lucky over the last several years when it comes to success during the season that it was good to realize that I really do love the hunting, and that enjoyment really has nothing to do with the success.
