here are some pictures from this fall. this moose is 65" and scores around 220" got him with my first client of the season in early september. we just rode up and spotted him at 300yrds stalked to 130yrds and my cleint shot him with is 270win and 150gr nosler. my first hunter also shot this caribou on the last morning. 60 yrds with a 270. my second hunter took this 60'', 210'' bull on the 6 day. after a week of hot weather and not many moose being spotted this guy was a welcomed treat, called him in to 70yrdsand shot with a 7wsm 160gr tsx. ready for the trip south my last hunter was a bow hunter that was up for 14 days. we took his bull on the 4th day at 32yrds. we hunted for a carbou the rest of the hunt and passed on some respectable bulls.

I daydream about shooting a big AK/YK moose. Of all North American game, I think I'd opt for a giant bull moose. I've done quite a bit as far as hunting goes, but something about those giant moose antlers drive me nuts. Someday....
Thanks for the great pics!

And they say you can't kill [bleep] with a 270. Those are some dandy moose and a real nice bou. Congrats to you and your hunter.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

Sask Hunter,
Great critters and photos! Do you have the entire caribou split between you and your horse? Do you have the front leg, off the rib cage, and the hind leg, cut off at the hip joint, hanging from the saddle's fork on both sides or just the hind legs? That looks like a slick way to haul the meat with out going back to camp for a pack horse. Approximately how much does a big bull caribou like that one weigh?

Phasmid,
ive just had half the caribou on my horse. i took the wrangler hunting with me that day and his horse has the same load too. two quarter on the saddle horn neck/backstraps/tenders in the saddle bags and we tied the ribs on behind the cantle. i put the cape and horns in my pack. it beats taking a pack horse or riding back out to get the animal.

Thanks for reply. I am just starting to get back into hunting with horses again after 20 years of packing it out myself and like the idea of not having to go back to camp without hauling some of the meat.
If you have a web site with information on your Yukon hunts please send me a Personal Message with the details. My hunting buddy is 66 and I think we should go do a special hunt before we get to old to enjoy it.

The quickest kill I have experienced on my 9 Moose was with the 270 and 130 grain Nosler...we were on a combo hunt in the Yukon back in 1993...the bull was 56 1/2 and scored 207..we were hunting stone sheep, moose and caribou in the McMillian River area...did not get a ram but got a good mtn caribou too...

Everybody knows a .270 Win. can't kill a moose. Ol' Elmer Keith said so!!!! BTW, congrats to all on some very nice trophys. Bear in Fairbanks
