I only have one Model 1899 and one 99. The 1899 is in .303 and the 99 is .250. How do you know which "letter" they are, i.e. 99G, etc? Is there a chart somewhere that someone can link me to?

Thanks in advance

Several factors that determine the letter models. Style of the wood, checkering, barrel round/ oct/ 1/2 & 1/2. Early 250's were a model itself. Go to www.savage99.com and www.savagela.org for pictures to compare yours to. Post pictures of your 99's here and they will also be identified. BTW welcome to the fire. GW

Look in the Misc. Good Info thread about ordering a copy of Doug Murray's The Ninety Nine. He's passed on, but I believe his wife is still selling them. Or look around on Amazon or eBay to find a copy.

It's not 100% complete, but it's a darned good intro.

You can also tell us serial number range, barrel lengths, whether it has a pistol grip, buttplate style, forearm style, and we can probably tell you the models. Pictures are always good also.
