Or anybody who has watched a B&C scorer score a Typical Mule Deer or Blacktail?

I'm wondering the proper place to start measuring the G2,3, and 4 on the main beam. I've heard a few different things.

Anybody got a picture of where to start?

Thanks!

Democracy is not freedom. Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch. Freedom comes from the recognition of certain rights which may not be taken, not even by a 99% vote.

You establish the base of the G2 and G4 by running a 1/4" tape (on edge) accross the outside/bottom of the point from one side of the point to another. The base line simulates the top of the main beam if the point were not present. You measure along the growth lines of the G2 or G4 staying more-or-less in the centre of the point and on the outside of the curve.

The G3 is measured in the same way, however the base is established along the top of the G2.

My friend in Thorne Bay is an official B&C scorer, and will give you good advice. He's down in the Lower 48 hunting whitetails right now, but when he gets back I'll ask him to call you. Send me a number for him to call at some point, because while I think I have it I'm sure I don't know where... whistle.

I guess I forgot to mention that I am an official B&C measurer.

Rick Teal, admitting that puts you in line for a buncha questions! smile

If you're willing to answer some, I'll start a new thread in the ELK forum; I've got a couple of general Qs and a couple specific to my latest elk.

Rick Teal, I too have a question before the line gets too long .. if you are willing and after "macrabbit" of course.

Could you please look at this camp fire post where I posted a pic of my Double Main Beam whitetail and give me an idea on how to score it. I know the basics for a typical deer.

any help is very appreciated.

Calvin,

Is this about the 4x4 you got with us, or did you drop a beast?

Macrabbit:

I've only measured two elk (being from Ontario), but have had the training, and the literature, so I`ll do what I can to help you along.

Put your questions on the elk forum, and I`ll see what I can do.
