Were going to buy my 8yr old a new bolt action .22 for X-mas. He has a Chipmonk, but outgrew it, and I don't think he is ready for a full size. Although I would love to get him a CZ, it just isn't in the cards. The one that has my eye is the Savage MKIIGY. It does have the Accu trigger. Any others I should consider for around $200?

Not that I'm trying to sell one , but the regular Ruger 10/22's have a shorter LOP, and served me well in my early years. I like the savages also as far as the bolt actions go. Are you looking strictly at the bolt guns?

outgrew a chipmunk at 8yo??? Is he bred from a secret society of giants living in solitude in the ravines of the palouse?
A 10/22 would fit that price tag ... but that isn't a bolt action. Good Luck

I'm thinking bolt because it will be good practice for his deer rifle next year.

I would take a hard look at the new T/C Hot Shot, a scaled-down, peep-sighted, single-shot .22 that only looks like an Encore, but has an alloy frame and either a black, camo, or pink stock set. .
It ain't no fun, when the rabbit's got the gun

I bought my little boy a Savage cub. He his going to get it next month for his birthday so I don't know how it shoots yet. Fit and finish is much better than most youth 22's.
I also bought him a marlin buckaroo but it is still way to big for him shoot. He has shot it and it shoots good its just to big for him.

When I turned 6 my dad bought me a Marlin 915Y and who knows how many gophers and birds I killed with that thing. I still have it and plan on giving it to my kids someday. Its only a single shot but that taught me to concentrate on the shot and make the first shot count. Still shoot it sometimes but being 6'3" its a little small now.

I still have my win 67A that my dad got me in 1954. Good teaching rifle. Only shoots 22 shorts as far as I can tell.

The 67's I have shoot Shorts, Longs and Long Rifles. IT's nice option to be able to shoot CB shorts and Stingers in the same rifle.

Am thinking all of the 67's are 22 short, long and long rifle.
I've got one that is actually a model 67 instead of 67A. It has the grooved forearm, which dates it to the mid-1930's
They are great rifles. I got my first one when I was 10, and like a fool, traded it off. Glad to have one back after all these years.
