Made our third annual trip for three days of Deer hunting in the Monongahela National Forest which I've been told is a million acres. You never see lots of Deer here, but there are some giants that seldom see people.

Last year one of the guys took giant, but with the heavy snow this area experienced last year-6 feet in places-we wondered how big a hit the herd took. It was significant, but two deer were still found. Three of us never saw a Deer, but one of us found two.

Anyway, our camp, the new Cabela's EWT that made things more comfortable for two of us.

The guy who did the shooting is not a rifle looney, but he is one dedicated Deer hunter. Shoots little, but has mucho woods time and this is not his first giant. Remington 700 .30-06 with I think a BP stock that his Dad probably put on. The actual rifle means little to him.

bat..,

That area never held a lot of deer but it always holds some monsters. It's also an area where winter kill can be an issue and has been, I believe, the last few winters. DNR finally agreed and cut back on the doe kill in that region.

I have relatives that live in Monroe County... and I have seen some monsters down there, when I have been back visiting..

a cousin has taken a couple of ones that tipped the scales at 350 lbs...on his 'orchard' permits..

of course he shoots then from his front window...looking over an apple orchard 365 days a year...

not much real hunting involved...

point being.. some real big ones grow down there..

Nice buck!

What county is the Monongahela Forest in?

If I remember it is in N/NE WV and is basically mountains and hard woods.
