Here is a report on our Northern Mn, deer camp. Camp.. This was the second weekend. This a night view. Opening weekend day 2. 1st deer check out the front legs. Our friend was out walking in the woods around noon. This guy was spotted about 50 yards away quartering towards him. A short standoff led to a shot just as the deer turned and jumped a blowdown. Result was a 15 min. chase through the woods leading to a showdown, deer charge and a neck shot to end it. Rifle 30-30 dot site.

Deer #2 was mine on day 3 0930 hrs. I was 3 hrs. into the morning and needing relief from all the coffee and hot chocolate. After climbing down from the stand I decided to put up a wind flag made from marking tape. I cut come tape and was just hangingi it, tape in one hand small tree in the other, when I saw movement infront of me about 70 yards out. I looked up and saw a buck walking towards a draw. I turned and grabbed my rifle, racked a round into the chamber. It was unloaded to come down from the stand. Turned raising the rifle and getting the crosshairs on the deer and fired. This took all of 3 seconds. The deer kicked his rear legs and was gone into the brush. I found him 10 yards from the shot location. Rifle 700 SA with mountain rifle barrel in 7-08 Bell and Carlson Ti stock and Burris 3x9. Barnes 140 TSX did the job.

Deer #3. Son inlaw on day 7. Taken from same stand as mine. Rifle Model 70 push feed 7 rem mag 150 bullet. Taken 1145 am. walking along an old cut. Range 50 yards. Finally #4 taken on day 14 by my wife. About 0930 am she went out to the stand and climbed up. Once in the stand she pulled her rifle up and saw the deer stand up. It had been beded about 50 yards out infront of her stand. Once up its head was behind a tree and she couldn't see its antlers. It finally took several steps and she could see it was legal. It turned and walked away from the shooting lane. It stopped with its head and backend behind trees but the vitals were open to her. One shot and a short track and it was over. After 14 days in the stand and seeing 8 deer this one finally gave her a shot. She saw two other bucks, a fork and one she said looked like an elk, Niether of which gave her a shot, the hunt ended. Saturday we took down stands and Sunday broke camp for the 250 mile drive home. It was a great season and a lot of fun with family and friends. Hope yours was as good.

We hunt in area 127 about 25 mile SE of Ely. It is one of the lowest deer density areas. We like it because it also has few hunters.

That's awesome. My old camp is south east of Tower, those boys had a great year too. Complete opposite from when I used to hunt with them (through the 90's)

Congrats on a great hunting season on public land. I love the idea of doing the "camp" thing. Most everybody down here in AL drives an hour or two, hunts for the day and then goes home. I love the idea of hunting "big woods" deer.

I have been doing the wall tent hunts since 1986. Some out west in Colorado, Wyoming and the Black Hills in SD. We enjoy the big woods. Nobody hunts there but us.

This is our version of road hunting. Our tired road hunter. See the spotted leapard also getting a ride. It goes everywhere with her.

Love the road hunt TJAY. What a cutie.
Great camp too. Not many tent campers left. Looks like you can keep it fairly warm.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Except for bears. Bears kill you.
