Whoa there LRF, surely your not going to post that picture and not give us anything more? Especially that 40-70ss. I'd love to see some close-ups and maybe an open action picture. If you don't mind I'd like to hear how you arrived at the design.

[img][image] http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y95/Savage345/Sharpsopen.jpg[/img][/image] Is this what you wanted to see? I designed and built it cause I couldn't afford to buy one. 25 years ago no one was making repo's.

LRF, that is very interesting. Looks a lot like a Borchardt on top in front. What did you do with the mainspring since there is no lockplate? Is the stock thru-bolted or does it bolt vertically through the wrist like a Sharps?
Very nice.

The stock has a thru bolt. The mainsring is inside on the lower tang. The hammer has a shaft attached to it that fits thru the side of the stock into a tumbler located inside. The shaft and hammer are supported by a bearing that is behind the hammer and you can't see it. Hope my explaination make sense.

LRF, makes good sense. Thanks, and if I might say that rifle is very nicely done!

got just one. a danish remington rolling block in 11.7x51R. tried it with shortened 45/70 brass and it split the odd case. got some brass from buffalo arms (straight wall 348) gonna try it soon. got some more on the way when the owner is feeling better. got some muzzleloaders too.

Ok No I come from a family of bakers. We had guns and we hunted. When I got out of the service after Vietnam, I became a toolmaker. I raised my sons by myself and didn't have money so I just started designing and building my own rifles. If you had a question on one of the rifles shown I can answer it.

ah, a toolmaker. i much admire and appreciate such skills - because i don't have them, nor the machinery on which to develop such expertise. but i wouldn't put you to the trouble to go into great detail. if, in the future, you'd be so kind as to attach some close-up photos, i'd sure enjoy looking at them - and i'll bet a bunch of other guys would, too. i maintain that a well-crafted firearm with sound lines is one of the finest examples possible of industrial art.

That is a fine looking rifle. Nothing beats a good looking falling block.

No I'm sorry I don't. If I take it apart some time I will take the photos. Did you have a special want for these? What I mean if you want to see how it works that may be easier to give. After all I do have all the drawings. Let me know. Thanks

no, no, lrf, just curiosity. firearms industrial art fascinates me like music does. i can sing passably but cannot read music nor play an instrument. i can shoot pretty well and bed a bolt rifle, but i couldn't do such machine work. i hope that parallel works. sign me an admirer of your skills.
