bedding a rifle. What does that do? Does it improve accuracy or what?

I'd really like to know- no more smart assed comments from me. I promise-
I'm no gun guru as many can tell, bash me all you want to-
I'm just curious about bedding.

I'm curious why you'd even care, with an off-the-shelf rifle that shoots 5/8" groups at 200 yards.

Why bother?

Why don't you do another "experiment" like you did on the other thread?

Go outside, pull your head outta your ass, and see if things look better for you.

I'm curious as to what mental disorder(s) you suffer from.

Keep posting, I think I'm closing in on a diagnosis.

Look, I have health issues. I truly am disabled and No not mental. I have been cooped up in my home for a while and I was just blowing off some steam. That's it, that's all, end of story. I won't post any more smart assed comments.
I truly am curious about bedding a rifle. That's it-
Yes I started some crap, I'm trying to end it back there at the other thread. Go back and read my last post.

Bedding the action provides consistency, which is to say that it basically eliminates variations in seating of the action within the stock caused by temperature/humidity, torquing caused by action screws, flaws in the stock, etc... Even with today's greatly improved manufacturing technologies, it's still pretty tough to match each action perfectly to stock with regard to proper seating. Bedding provides an essentially impervious layer between the two that compensates for these differences, effectively precision matching the action to the stock.

Results can be quite dramatic in some instances, and generally improvement of some kind is usually achieved.

...if properly done.

It's much more commonly done with wood stocks than synthetic, wood being subject to reacting to environmental changes...although improvements often are realized with synths, too.

Okay I get it, thank you Sir.
My 700 has a synthetic stock and a free floating barrel. It does shoot extremely well though.

That being the case, unless you're somewhat...ummm...fanatical about accuracy, a very common affliction among gun nuts, I'd say don't fix it if it ain't broken.

I've never seen a Model 700 that didn't shoot great. I love mine.
