I ran into a man today that said that he had to dispatch a doe this morning that was shot in the butt Saturday when doe season opened here.

It suffered for two whole days before he came upon it and took it out of it's misery.
All this reminds me of what went on 40 years ago when inexperienced and hung over hunters went out and blasted at anything that moved in my neck of the woods.

This is the first time that I have came across someone having to shoot a deer that was wounded in rifle season in a long time in my neck of the woods.

When I asked him, why he didn't tag it and take it, he looked offended and said he didn't need a deer that bad.
My opinion is - if you shoot it, you tag it.

What is your opinions?

after 2 days it would depend on the condition of the deer/meat.

I shot one that had been wounded a week before, she was gangrene or something from her ass up through her back. shoulda left it lay

He did right by putting it out of its misery. I can't blame him for not wanting to tag it, that would end his hunting season, right?

Why should he end his hunting season because of someone else's mistake?

He was probably breaking the law by not tagging it, but if he's willing to take that risk in doing the right thing, that's his business.

Here in Az, by my best interperation of the law putting someone elses game out of its misery is actually illegal unless you tag it.

I would not like to be put in that situation because I know what would be the right thing to do, although it could be illegal.

How do you handle folks who harass other hunters in AZ?

It's the same here in NH,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you kill it you tag it, regardless!!!!!!!!!! BUT, nonetheless, he did the very RIGHT thing. The ONLY mistake he made was telling someone that would open his VERY LARGE offensive mouth and post it on the world wide web.
