Yep, let's check this logic, and this math... And, we'll use the '06 for comparatives... A bag of 100 new Remington cases runs about $40 ($38 on sale; $45 regular): http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=1601224682A box of 20 new Remington factory loads (Core-Lokt Express; cheap stuff) runs about $20: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=167224So, that'd be $1/case for the factory stuff, vs $0.40/case for the bag of virgin brass. Yeah.... Ergo the reason that JeffO can't run a successful real estate business (how's that commercial stuff treating you, Jeff? Gotten back to that full-time, or still working in the family scrap yard to make ends meet?), and Swampass remains in contention for the biggest dumbphuck award.

I do handload, but I want a rifle I can buy ammo for if I need to.
I also prefer to buy factory ammo and shoot it for the brass. Yeah, I've had a terrible time getting ammo for my 280........not. A quick internet search will give you several places. Question, what's it like going thru life being a dumbarse?

Dick's Sporting Goods has Core-Lokts for $14.50 a box and Remington gives you $2.50 of that back. In my rifle they shoot sub-1/2 groups and at the end of the shooting I have brass fire formed to my rifle.
Of course they don't have odd calibers.

You'll never know how ugly posts like the above show you to be. 'Nuff said. I'm seeing $12/20 per Swampmans numbers. That's $30/50 cases which compares pretty favorably to what a bag of 50 Winchester cases costs around here. Plus you get 50 rounds of loaded ammo in the deal, and the cases you end up with are fireformed to your chamber. Not how I do it; I don't buy factory ammo, but it makes a certain knd of sense if you use Rem brass. Y'all can have your pizzin' match; I'm done.
The CENTER will hold.

Now you did it. Tap the brakes, tap, tap.... no touchy feely chit.
Forget shooting factory ammo for brass. I pick it up (.270)at the range, mix them all together and pick whatever I like and resize it for my .280. Fed, Win, Rem, Nozler, etc. works great. Groups run in the 1/16th "of-a-inch" range and from reading all 37 reloading manuals I estimate the velocity to be around 3200 with a 18.5" barrel.
Not posting any pictures either because don't want to see grown men cry.

And, yeah, I might be an azzhole for stating some facts, but being an azzhole don't change the facts as they are.
That said, Jeff, I do know that you and yours are struggling. Good on you for doing what you can, and as you have a wife and kids in the mix, God bless y'all, for their sake, and good luck.

Maybe so, just don't want to wear out the barrel. It's a fast one. BTW, I can't find coreloss bullets at WallyMarts, what's up with that?

You'll never know how ugly posts like the above show you to be. And you will never grasp how your posts show how stupid you are....

I know it's hard to understand, but you can shoot the ammo and when you open the bolt out pops an empty case that you can reload. No really, I thought it went down the barrel and disappeared. Your worried about a 2.50 rebate but buy factory ammo for brass?? I would love to see 12.50 a box ammo, up here you're looking at $17+ before rebate. VA did the math already, your logic loses. Look I try not to get into pissin' matches on here but sometimes you are just way off base. JeffO, nothing against you either but sometimes its better to say nothing By the way, even if you can get it for 12.50, the rebate is good for a max of $5.00 per household..o wait in your case you go by many different handles so I guess you're good for atleast $20 in rebates

280 is a great cartridge....it was timing kept it from being popular. Sandwiched between to 270(30 year head start),and competition from the 7RM(which really buried it). We can talk about the ability to handle high BC 7mm bullets, but when all this happened, those bullets were few and far between....and many hunters, lacking imagination, could not see the advantages of it over other stuff in the same category. And anemic factory ammo did not help it.. ..once the 7RM gained traction though it was "lights out" for the 280. None of this means it isn't a really good cartridge, and about perfect in a light rifle on a 30/06-length action. I don't know how vastly superior it is to the competition, though.Having used it and its' neighbors, seems to me it kills game about as dead as a 270......I have owned a few;a great Mauser sporter by Kevin Campbell,M70 FW,Rugers, and others. They shot good and killed stuff.A bomb with 140 BBC and Partitions. I got to watch a FW M70 in 280 do its' stuff this year on a 30" mule deer at about 400 yards;factory fodder and 140 TSX, if I recall.....two days later, I watched a 270 Win with 130 Partitions do likewise on another mature buck at 380 yards.Being witness to both,I had to go into a deep trance to see the difference, internet gacking notwithstanding.....I lack imagination sometimes Pick your poison......you will not go wrong with a 280.

The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.
