Got this 8-pt. yesterday with my Ruger #1 in 7mm Rem. Mag. - 60 yard shot through a little opening I had between two trees as the buck was facing me at a strong quartering angle. He was getting antsy and acted like he was going to turn back and disappear into the brush, so since I had my rifle on shooting sticks and the deer was standing, I figured that was as good as it was going to get...until I walked up to him, that is. He went just 10 yards after the shot (bullet went just inside the shoulder, took off the top of his heart and exited through the opposite lung). My four year old son has been anxious for me to get a deer as he wants jerky, so now it's time to get out the jerky gun...except I may have to buy a game tag and go after a doe - not quite ready to put the deer rifle away just yet.

Love seeing pics of nice bucks taken with a Ruger No.1 and the rifle in the picture.

I like to see the rifle in the photo as well, I hardly ever have my camera along, and never think to include the rifle in the photo.

Success with a single shot like the No.1 is sweet for sure. Congratulations on a nice buck with a well placed shot.

Thanks, guys. It was a very satisfying way to fill my tag and put meat in the freezer.
