I just got a new Model 70 Extreme Weather in 300WSM and haven't scoped it yet. I'm leaning toward a 3-9 Leupold VX-II with the LRD reticle. I want this to be a rifle I can use for anything from hogs to antelope to moose. Thanks!

That would be a great scope for your rifle. I have had many VX-11 3-9x40's good scopes.Only thing I would watch for when buying is if possible try the power ring before you buy, some are much stiffer to turn than others.

I am sure lots of people will say I have too much scope on them, but both my 300WSM rifles wear Leupold 4.5x14x40mm LR scopes with the Boone and Crockett reticle.

These are 30mm scopes and with the dual dovetail baes and rings they make a sturdy set up. The side focus is a nice feature as is the B&C reticle. That reticle really works, I have tested it a fair amount.

If you do not want that much scope I highly recommend the Leupold VX3 3.5x10 with the same B&C reticle. This a pretty small scope that is sharp and clear and has no AO feature to mess with.

That's a nice scope for your intended use.
In a couple of hours my 300wsm will be sporting a 3x9 Trijicon Accupoint.

Mine wears a 2.5x8 with BC reticle. Works very well.

The 2 M70 300 WSM's I have are topped off with the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40. The scope is second to none in it's price range.

Sounds like a good choice.. My 300 WSM Savage Mod. 10 has had a VX-III 3.5-10x 40mm on since shortly after I bought it in early '06 and I'm real happy with it. I'm sure your choice wouldn't be that much of a difference in a hunting rifle. Just make sure it's sitting in a good solid set of rings & bases.

I just bought the same rifle....I used the DNZ mount for wsm rifles (low version) which seems very nice and I went with a Nikon 3x9x40 monarch...found it on sale for 199.95 at SWFA....not sure if they still have it t that price. Outfit feels great. Scope was 299.95. If that does not work I have a Bushnell Elite 4200....2.5x10x40 on my 7mm-08 that I will pull off and use. Good luck.......I am really impressed with the EW model 70 so far.

Don't know which is tougher but the 3.5-10x VX-III's are sure rugged. Bought my first one in 1995 for one of those Kimber sporterized Mod. 96 Swedish Mausers. It's still on there and in 2006 when I got my 300 WSM I bought another one cause I liked the first one so well. They're both matte finished 40mm's with the standard duplex and no AO but that's the way I like 'em.

Thanks for all the feedback. It's nice to have options, but sometimes it gets to be overwhelming.
