Anyone else? In addition to being a great 22, to me, it would be the ultimate practice rifle.

7/8th's scale and about 6lbs? .22, .22 WMR, .17 M2, .17 HMR, maybe .22 Hornet?
I could like it...

Jeff Absolutely. Maybe a scaled down model of the same quality. I'd love to have a No.1 in .22lr.

I'd even go for the scaled down frame, so long as LOP was the same as a full size model. As you guys have suggested, it would also make a great platform for the smallbore rounds!

How about a conversion unit, like the Erma that went into a Mauser military rifle?

There used to be a gunsmith named Korzinek (sp?) in PA who converted Rugers to .22LR from .22 Hornet. I think he used the Ruger #3, if I recall the model number correctly. I agree, I think there would be a market for a Ruger single shot in .22 LR, especially if it were to scale and priced fairly.

I don't think that Ruger #1 has been priced fairly for some time. But B.T.A.I.M., They are great rifles and the price is not exhorbantant. Too bad Browning/Winchester can't offer a regular rifle instead of just the limited edition customs. I always get mad at myself every time I sell one. Sooner or later, I want it back. I have owned three #1s in 6mm Rem. Now they don't make it anymore and I have't seen one for sale since Hector was a pup! But the good news is that I managed a 1-B in .257 Robts. before they managed to evaporate. So that is some consolation.... Idle thoughts from an idle mind. ...the9.3Guy

Paul,
He did convert the No.1 to .22 LR or Magnum, but I don't think he's still in business. I know one guy who owns one. It had been rebarreled to .22 LR and the frame had been scalloped.
I asked the Ruger folks about a 3/4 sized No.1 in standard 1A configuration for the rimfires and small bore cartridges at a SHOT show some years back, they looked at me like I was crazy.
About the size of the little Frasers I see from time to time, it would go maybe 6 lbs with a standard LOP (not the short LOP on some of their "compact" rifles). Slim and trim, it could be a small bore shooter's dream.
The No.1 is way overbuilt for even larger cartridges. IIRC, the action was sized for the dangerous game cartridges.

I have a #1, in a 223 that John Korzinek, "Riflesmith", in Canton, Pa. He built it in 1994/95. He was not the cheapest person I considered, but I doubt if any one knows # 1 's , or did/does better then he does. 1st class work.
The "brochure" I have from him , shows he converted #1, & #3 to rim fire. He also did bolt guns.
Don't know if he is still in business.

I'd rather see a #1AB in the small calibers (and some of the larger ones too). I don't know what the production years were, but the #1AB was a B with a light 22" sporter barrel. The A has the sights I don't like and the A. Henry forend, while the B is clean, but has a larger barrel than I'd want in small calibers. I don't know why Ruger doesn't offer this model again.

I have a #1B in .22 Hornet accruized. It is a an accurate practice rifle and with the new loads advocated by Mule Deer it sounds like it would fill a gap for a low report varminter on most any farm in the East.

An absolutely brilliant idea. I wouldn't want it scaled down though. 1Minute

akjeff, i think that is an excellent suggestion. if we all would like something of the sort to happen, we should drop www.lipseys.com a line. they appear to be a big ruger wholesaler that supports limited run items as well. after logging on, go to the "welcome" tab then press feedback and scroll down for "firearm idea/suggestion". j scott p.s. i think they are the ones offering a ruger 1A SS and Walnut in .257bob.

akjeff, I would buy one also, in the regular size rifle, not something scaled down. I have a 1B in 22 Hornet that has been accurized that I like very much. It's the only number 1 I have. But, I got a whole flock of 22 Rifles. I always need another one.. Good post, Don

I would still be converting #1/3 to rimfire if my health remained. I tried to teach the proper method of timing them for rimfire (allows the c/f pin to properly reach the rim). Problem is bean counters/manufacturing cost almost the same. Ruger is in the same situation with rimfire Vs. bigbore handguns. Trying to hold the line on prices, the quality in #1 is falling off every production run, bbls are held in with thread sealant (locktite ?). I do not rebarrel them with out recutting & squaring the thread in receiver.
