Whats the best option for some high powered binos to keep in the truck for glassing fields in the summer?
Not looking to spend a fortune but would like something with some power for long distance viewing out of the truck. I would try a spotting scope but holding that still without a stand would be impossibile I would think.
Something at least 12x power would probably do what I need it too.
Nikon Action 12x50 maybe?

I don't know I havent looked around much......less say $200 or less. Is there a set at that price point to be had that would be decent? I hunt with some Monarchs and if I can find something even remotely close as far as quality but more power I'll be happy. don't care about weight at all.

"remotely close" to Monarch quality, ain't hard to do, or best.
I'm betting Doug will have something by Vortex that'll fit the bill nicely.

If I may suggest two options: Minox MD-50 Spotting Scope open box special @ $189.99 with a window mount. This gives you a 16-30x zoom capability. Vortex Fury 12.5x42 binocular on sale for $199.99. Both are excellent quality that you should enjoy using.

remington,
Yesterday I compared some of my stuff just for fun. Among them are a 7-15X35 Nikon and a 13X56 Minox. I put one of Mule Deer's eye charts out by the corn (62 yards away). With both on 13X I could almost read the numbers beside the lines. Of course the Minox was brighter, but not clearer.
When I compared the Nikons with my Vortex Raptors 6.5X32 I noticed the Nikons are brighter. When I put the Nikons on barely above 7X, like maybe 7 1/8X, I could make out the smallest lines just like I could with the Vortex on 6.5X. Therefore I took the bino buddy off the Vortex and put it back on the Nikon. The Vortex will be in the console of the pick up.
With all that said, you will be hard pressed to get a better value than the Nikon 7-15X35.

Remington;
Get the spotter w/window mount.
Haven't run Vortex glass (save Raptor 6.5s) yet, but Minox glass is just stupid good.
And, the window mount makes sense.
Might need one of those, myself...

Re: Ringman...
Um, you may want to listen to folks (start w/Doug) that understand glass, optics... and physics...
And, disregard those that don't.
Having run the Nikon "Actions", and stuff that is actually worth having, you couldn't give me another set of "Action" bins from Nikon.
Oh, and Ringman, when you want to get rid of those pitiful 13x56s, please, let me know...

+1. Spotter with window mount is perfect. No variable bino I've seen is worth a darn except the Leica Duovid which is mucho dinero.

VAnimrod, Oh, and Ringman, when you want to get rid of those pitiful 13x56s, please, let me know... Your opinion of pitiful and mine must be quite different. They are very nice binoculars and a delight to use for hours at a time while varmint hunting. But, I will let them go for $600 plus mail.

JGRaider,
Last year one of my son-in-law's hunting buddies was using a Wiunchester window mounted spotting scope. He was trying to judge a proghorn, but couldn'[t quite see it clearly. My son-in-law told him to try the Nikons. Of course the fellow argured with him, but finally tried them. He could imediately see the proghorn.
One of the other fellows wanted to try them. He was very favorably impressed.
So when I read these type of posts,I think, These folks are speaking from ignorance or they got a bad one like the first Bushnell 6500 I bought.
As far as window mounts go, I have one. I made a mounting system to use my 12-42X56 NightForce. I have yet to look through any scope as nice as it is. I think the nearest is a Minox 62mm spoting scope. I don't remember what model, but it was barely sharper than my Bushnell when both were on 30X.

Ringman;
50% mark-UP on used bins? You're more delusional than I'd originally thought.
As to the "Winchester" story: comparing bad schit to worse schit might look like a "win", but you're still stuck w/schit.

VAnimrod, First let me say I didn't think you are serious; based on your posts over the months I have read them. Second: 50% mark-UP on used bins? I have no idea what you are talking about. Do you think I purchased them used for $400? Do you have any idea what they sell for new? I bought them from the store after comparing them outside the store with other similar binocs.
