According to the DEA, this is the most recent map of cocaine distribution. Didn't Hillary just say that Mexico needs to follow Columbia's example?

I thought it was showing the best way to snort lines.

Perhaps Shrillary was referring to The Colombia plan, introduced by Bill Clinton, which bolstered Colombia's security forces with US military personnel, equipment and training.
Not exactly a success.
What Mexico needs is for their young men to return home from the US to clean up their country.

No, most heroin from Asia goes to Columbia, Bolivia or Peru before coming here. The routes are just too well established.

so, how does a Gov't, or consortium of gov'ts cut off a main-stream arterial route?

well-established routes are easily identified by qualified trackers? what does it take to stop the flow??

Supply and demand. It would be easy to destroy the source. Cocaine only grows in the humid mountains of Columbia, Bolivia and Peru. Coca-Cola threw a wrench in that plan. Remember "New Coke"? It was a subsidized effort to make a cola without coca. Coka-Cola was the second largest conglomerate in the world at the time, next to GM. Didn't anybody wonder why they would stop selling the best making soda of all time? It didn't go over very well.

They can't, as has been well (and expensively) proven by now.

Personally, I'm thinking that prohibition sure ain't working. Trying something else would be the sensible thing to do, no?

The cynical side of me says it will never happen, too much money to be made by everyone involved. That's the bitter reality.

You are right,of course, but it is bigger and uglier than even your cynical side suspects.

Exactly.

You stop something by killing the market, not the producers.

Every dealer/producer you put away decreases supply and thus increases price as you've done nothing to demand. That entices more people to enter the equation on the supply side. You never solve the problem. People are more than happy to become a dealer/producer as long as there's the lure of big profit/money.

Take away the demand, price drops and by extension profits. There's no economic incentive to become a producer/dealer.

We're approaching it from the wrong end.
