After several military surplus rifles, my first new rifle was a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. That was about 50 years ago. For some reason I sold it.
I just picked up another Marlin 336. It is marked 336CS. It is also in 35 Rem. The tube ends at the end of the forend and it only holds 3 rounds in the tube plus 1 in the chamber. I have never seen one like this before. Looks like it was made in 1988 and has the crossbolt safety. Wish I could take pictures, but I am technologically challenged. Anybody able to tell me something about this model?

Never heard of a Marlin that came from the factory with a mag tube flush with the forend. Sounds like someone cut it down at some time or other.
Is there a dovetail groove on the underside of the barrel about halfway between forend and muzzle or a small tapped hole on the underside right near the muzzle? How long is the barrel?
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!
