In our Sunday School class yesterday, our associate pastor gave us a test over the Christmas story. His point was what we assume or read into the Christmas story, what has become tradition, and what has became lore. What does the Bible actually say...or doesn't say.

Here's a couple of questions:

1. As long as Christmas has been celebrated, it has been on December 25th. TRUE OR FALSE

2. Mary and Joseph were married when Mary became pregnant. TRUE OR FALSE

3. Mary and Joseph were married when Jesus was born. TRUE OR FALSE

4. Mary was a virgin when she delivered Jesus. TRUE OR FALSE

5. Joseph was from: A) Bethlehem B) Jerusalem C) Nazareth D) Egypt E) Slaton, TX F) None of the Above

6. Jesus was delivered in a: A) Stable B) Manger C) Cave D) Barn E) ICU Neo-natal unit F) Unknown

7. Who saw the "star in the east" A) Shepards B) Mary and Joseph C) Three kings D) Steven Hawking E) None of the above

8. How many angels spoke to the shepherds A) One B) Three C) A "multitude" D) None of the above

9. The wise men found Jesus in a A) Manger B) Stable C) House D) Buffalo Wild Wings E) None of the above

10. When Joseph and Mary found out that Mary was pregnant with Jesus, what happened? A) They got married B) Joseph wanted to break the engagement C) Mary left town for three months D) An angel told them to go to Bethlehem E) Both A and D F) Both B and C.

Bonus question: 11. How many wise men came to see Jesus?

Remember...key words....what does the Bible actually say.

Here's a couple of questions:

1. As long as Christmas has been celebrated, it has been on December 25th. TRUE OR FALSE(the Bible doesn't give an actual date, although a serious study will show it was likely in the 7th Jewish month near the 22nd day.)

2. Mary and Joseph were married when Mary became pregnant. TRUE OR FALSE
3. Mary and Joseph were married when Jesus was born. TRUE OR FALSE Since marriage must be consummated by a physical union, and there was no union until after the birth of Jesus, No!
4. Mary was a virgin when she delivered Jesus. TRUE OR FALSE but not when she delivered his four half brothers and his half sisters. (Mark 6:3)
5. Joseph was from: A) Bethlehem B) Jerusalem C) Nazareth D) Egypt E) Slaton, TX F) None of the Above - at least that is where he was living when Mary conceived Jesus (Luke 1:26-27)
6. Jesus was delivered in a: A) Stable B) Manger C) Cave D) Barn E) ICU Neo-natal unit F) Unknown and laid him in a manger -- Luke 2:7 -- manger would have typically been in a stable

7. Who saw the "star in the east" A) Shepards B) Mary and Joseph C) Three kings D) Steven Hawking E) None of the above There were wise men (number is not given, though they brought three gifts to the "young child -- Matt 2

8. How many angels spoke to the shepherds A) One but he was joined by a multitude AFTER the announcement

9. The wise men found Jesus in a A) Manger B) Stable C) House Matt 2:11 D) Buffalo Wild Wings E) None of the above

10. When Joseph and Mary found out that Mary was pregnant with Jesus, what happened? A) They got married B) Joseph wanted to break the engagement Matt 1:19 C) Mary left town for three months but not out of shame -- to see her cousin Elisabeth who was also pregnant miraculously D) An angel told them to go to Bethlehem E) Both A and D F) Both B and C. They didn't go to Bethlehem until she was just short of her delivery date.

Bonus question: 11. How many wise men came to see Jesus? -- the Bible doesn't say. They brought three gifts, but there may have been a great company of them.

My best shot at it. Could be wrong on some. I don't celebrate Christmas, though I sure do acknowledge the fact that "the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us........ and that God was manifest in the flesh, and that both those are a reference to the Lord Jesus Christ.
