Went out this morning & happened to see a turkey fly into a tree about a half mile away - @ 9:30. Put the sneak on the tree & the turk bailed at a range of about 10 yards. It left straight away & since I could not ID a beard, I didn't shoot.

Headed that general direction, though. I sat for quite a while about 3/4 mile from where I saw the 1st turk. Squawked a few times & no reply. Ate a bit & walked a coule hundred yards before I tried my owl call. A turkey bailed out of the tree right beside me & hauled butt. Again, I coldn't see a beard, so no shot. Since there was no gobble when I used the owl call & it left the tree in a panic, is this consistent behavior for a hen? I also wondered about going into a tree - the weather really wasn't that bad - 50's & a moderate wind. Spooked by a coyote, maybe? SW

Darkness is all around us and enemy are just beyond the perimeter.
