Saw this in a Mag. It is a .50 model 1894 with a ghost ring, half mag, and costs $1400-with you supplying the rifle! Am I awake, or what?

I saw that too. I can think of a lot of other ways I'd rather spend $1400. Heck, I could probably get 3 45-70's for that much.

Yes, but there is a big difference between the 1894 and 1895. There's something to be said for a 16" carbine that will hold 6 rounds with a half-mag and shoot 425 grain bullets!
I talked to Mic McPherson about this quite a bit ( the one who did most of the work on the rifle in the article) He recommends the 475 M3 which is the .50 AE case necked down to .475. I am going to go with the straight .475 Linebaugh first and see how I like it.

Dennis, Good luck. I'm just one of those that would rather have a bunch of regular rifles rather than one or two custom ones. And while I can't see myself ever going the extreme wildcat route, I do like to see others do it. I just talked myself into rechambering a 30-30 to 7-30 Waters, so maybe I'm getting the fever too.

Jayhawker,
If you are somewhat handy with metal tools, you could build a 475 or .50 AE or any variation in between with only having a barrel made and fitted. This could run as little as $250 or as much as $500 or so. The rest you could do yourself. The mods are not extensive.
