Seems to me that this one would be a screamer. I like the prospects of the 257WSM, but just thought it would be fun to get some thoughts on this one,,,,BEARHUNTER

Stick,
Thanks for the reply, what kind of performance do you think this would be capable of? I know you like the 243AI, but wouldn't this be just that much better? I wonder if 4000fps could be reached with the lighter bullets?,,,BH

She's too much of a good thing,in my opinion. But that doesn't mean that somebody else wouldn't LOVE it.

I'd bet you could hit 4000fps,with the 85gr bullets. It's a fairly large case and would require quite a bit of barrel,to realize all of it's potential in 6mm.

It would be akin to a 6mm-257Wby.........................

I'm a big fan of 6mm/243 bullets, I do believe it would be best in heavy bullets though, you can get over 4000 fps in 55gr bullets.
I've been thinking about a 25cal though, had a few 25/06 and really like them. I know the 6.5mm is popular but thier is something about a 25.
If you do the 243/6mm thing it should be interresting and real hoot!

I have shot a few p-dogs with a buddies 6-284. After shooting it I can't understand why you would want a 243 imp. And what is all the buz on the short magnum case? Doesn't that case require a magnum bolt face? And does it offer any more capaticity than the 284 case? Please enlighten me. What would a 243 WSM give us that the 6-284 does not?

Requires a mag bolt face, but that is easy. It holds about 15grs more capacity, than the 284 case. So it would do to the 6-284,what it does to the 243win.

She requires a looong barrel,to get the goody out of her. Twisted quick, with high BC projectiles,it would be interesting to play with.

Would still be too much, for this kid..............

I am starting to see the light, but where do you find a short action 700 with a mag bolt face?

6.5Remmag,350Remmag,30ShortUltra,7mmShortUltra. Or you simply open the boltface and install a Sako extractor or M-16 extractor($100)....................

Ive got the action for it, but I ain't giving up my 350 mag. It was more of an info seeking question than anything.
Big Stick, I was cruising through some sites the other day and found this one sight that loads custom ammo, they had loads for the 25-284!!! I know that doesn't interest you, but I found it surprising. they also had loads for the 6mm/284. and quite a few other wilcats, all using quality bullets. i think it was connely precision or something like that,,,,,,BH
