I was down visiting the outlaw's over Christmas and as usual the father-in-law and I ended up down at the local store for a visit. Even though I went there with no intention of making a purchase they had a CZ 452 American sitting in a box with no home...
Anyway, I now have what appears to be a very nice .22 bolt that needs a scope. I was thinking of going better than the $40 dollar Bushnell or Tasco on this thing - seems like it deserves better.
It will be used as a plinker while I'm out hiking for sheds in the spring, varmints on some ranches around here, and targets at the range. I am currently thinking of a Vortex Diamondback.
I would like to hear how other CZ owners topped there rifles and thoughts on the Vortex.
As I recall a M452 'American' is a really nice .22 rifle.
WHAT EXACTLY IS YOU "PURPOSE" FOR THAT PIECE? Plinking? Bagging squirrels?
After determing "that," whatever optic I chose would have a 1-inch tube, and would be a Leupold. I might go with a straight 4X or a 2X7X - plus, whether I used std rifle scopes (VX-one's or two's), Leupy also makes "rimfire" versions of the VX-2's, too!
If you're a hardcore .22LR afficianado, Leupold makes a 3X9X A.O. that's pricey, but could really dress-up a M452.

my thoughts exactly, usage would make the difference in how i scope it.
as a plain "walkaround" hunting rifle, certainly nothing wrong with a good 4X fixed, though i like a 2-7x or 3-9x compact better. The 3x9AO leupold that StubbleDuck mentioned is good glass.
sizewise, the 2x7/3x9 compacts look better on 452's, although i have to admit on most of mine, especially the .17's, i "overglassed" them a bit, but they see both bench plinking and field time, and the extra zoom range of the 4-12's/4.5-14's comes in handy for long range squirrel sniping.
i stuck Burris 4.5-14 compacts on 2 of my 452's, that way i get the zoom range i like with a lot less bulk:
I've got a fixed 4x Nikon on mine and my wifes. The only complaint is the bolt through is so high the scope has to be mounted un-necessarily high for a small objective diameter scope. If mounted too low, the bolt won't clear the ocular bell.
I used Burris Medium Rings paired with a Leupold 3-9x40, have the same scope with an A.O that I'll put on one of these days. I've been accused of lying when I posted some 3 shot 100 yard groups with the rifle.
That picture's hilarious. I was coyote hunting with a buddy of mine last week and two fox squirrels ran right up and stopped 3 or 4 feet in front of us. Sat there and stared at us for 15 or 20 seconds, then plodded off, brushing against my buddy's leg. I was hoping one of them would climb up his leg, that would have been priceless.
God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy...
I hope you know what you have there. One of the finest, most accurate .22's made.
I put a Leupold Vari-X III, 3.5-10 Target Dot on mine. At 25 yards, after the first shot, you'd swear the other 4 missed the target...they all go in the same hole.
Man, have fun with the new pea shooter. And put some nice glass on it!
I used Burris mediums to mount a 6x Burris compact on mine and Warne rings to mount a Leupold 4x mini on my son's. You will enjoy that rifle. Of all my fireams it is one of the few that will not go. Scary shooters. GreggH
These couple groups are from the day I sighted mine in, 100 yards
Another picture of my model "Squeak" (RIP) Had to put her to sleep this past summer. Found her as a baby, her hind end was weak although she could climb and move around fine. Condition got pretty bad. She was a neat pet and loved me, strangers not so much.
i put a leupy 2-7x33 rimfire on my 452. i'll only use it for squirrels. had the barrel cut to 19" and threaded. currently awaiting the arrival of a new suppressor. as mentioned, the 452 is a very accurate rifle. best of luck with your new cz.
I have one of the DIProducts rails on my Varmint with a set of Warren QRW rings and a Mueller APV. I am looking at the Vortex also for my 452FZ so any info would be GREAT!

That is the coolest thing. Ever since I was a kid I've always wanted a pet squirrel, closest thing I've came to it was marrying a woman that is nuts. How old did Squeak live to be?

I just bought a 455 switchbarrel gun, in .22LR and .17 HMR. All I had handy was a Simmons 22Mag scope that came on a used rifle I bought last spring. Oddly enough, that scope is bright and clear as a bell. It was riding on my .204 this fall when I shot a coyote with that rifle. As I said, it's awfully bright and clear for a $40 scope. It lacks an AO, though, and will be replaced, probably with another of the .22Mag scopes, only WITH an A.O. I was really surprised at the clarity of that scope, but it's all but unuseable at 25 yards, as I found out yesterday. Out past 50 yards, it's pretty good.
Strange, even the cheapest of the cheap can sometimes furnish a good piece of glass.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.
