Do most of you carry shooting sticks or bipods when hunting? If so, what brand/model do you like best? Thanks!

I didn't have my Harris on my rifle last week and I wished I did. I made the shot but my bi-pod would have made it easy.

OldForester; While I don't seem to use sticks when I'm hunting solo, they are always in my hand whenever our daughters are doing the shooting. When they began hunting it quickly became apparent that some sort of light and easily set up rest would be an asset. After fooling with different heights and thicknesses, I finally settled on 3 dowel rods, " diameter and 4' long, sharpened at the bottom and bound with a leather boot lace. The sticks held by our eldest daughter in the photo were the initial unit that served as a rest for about 6 deer for them. We finally snapped one of the dowels this past fall - of course in the midst of trying to shoot a mule deer buck. The replacement set that I made out of scrap straight grained hickory are about 5/8" and a bit longer - just a bit over 5' this time, in order to facilitate use while standing. The overall length was actually decided by the width of the back seat of our Dodge pickup, as the sticks live there on the back window for our 3 month season. While they aren't exactly high tech, if we happen to forget them on the mountain we're only out about $3. Hopefully that was some use to you. All the best to you and yours in 2011. Regards, Dwayne

I have been using Golf Club shafts. I JB beld some inserts in them and screw in some field points. Drilled a hole through them about 8 inches from the top of the grip and slid a nail threw them and bent it over and rounded it off. THey are light, stiff and sturdy. They fold up nice and tight and make a good walking stick when hiking up the mountains.
BC30cal,
I have recently ben building some like yours, using fiberglas elctric fence post. You can get them for about 1.00 each and they are 4 feet. If your rebuling a set they might be the ticket.

After playing with both the standard Harris and the taller Harris which is suppose to allow shooting from a sitting position, I decided they were extra weight and extra problems I didn't need. I've long used a shooting sling, with Jeff Cooper's CW system my favorite. If I need something steadier, I use my pack. E

Do most of you carry shooting sticks or bipods when hunting? Not really sure what most carry, but generaly I don't...on those rare occaisions that I do, I have used the sticks.Generally I rely on natural rests, a pack, or a sling. I have, once in awhile, cut sticks from branches if I thought I needed something while sitting in one spot.

I almost always carry a pair of sticks cut out of a fence row many years ago. Tied with a bootlace and slung over my shoulder with another lace. They keep on working for me.

I like a monopod. I got a Stoney Point for Christmas one year and it works great as a walking stick and helps when you're ready to shoot.
