I use Eezox on all of my rifles. I hunt in shooting houses when it's raining here in Alabama so they don't get much water on them like rifles used in Alaska.

Ihuntsolo: Your wonderful Weatherby Mark V may or may not have a wood stock? If it has a wood stock go "ixnay" on many of the suggested "gun oils" that have been posted. After a few years of useage with some of the suggested products the wood stock will start to suffer. If you are wanting to protect your metal and a wood stock (long term) from harm/discoloration then I would go with either Browning Gun Oil or G 96. Then for storage use BreakFree innside the barrel and the aforementioned products on the exterior (easy on the wood). If you have a fiberglass type stock then G 96 outside the bore and BreakFree inside the bore. I have as yet to encounter any problems with gun protection while using BreakFree. If I might inquire why do you wish to change? Best of luck to ya. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

IIRC Phil Shoemaker suggested in an article that 10w40 works pretty well.

I've hunted extensively in salt water for ducks using a Benelli M1 and have used Barricade and WD-40 and never had a hint of rust. I never use WD-40 for lube, only for the exterior metal. For lube I prefer Tri-Flow or Militec and I also use the Militec grease.
I read a study one time that had 6 or 8 of the most common lubes tested on plain sheet metal and WD-40 worked as good as anything. I think the most important thing is to make sure that you use something in the first place and thoroughly clean the gun ASAP after getting wet.

I like to use WD-40 on the exterior surfaces and Lubriplate on wear surfaces. I buy it in one gallon cans and I think I am on my fourth gallon now. No rust on any of my guns! whelennut
I like to do my hunting BEFORE I pull the trigger! There is only one kind of dead, but there are many different kinds of wounded.

Gun ButterRemoil seems to become gummy and hard. A friend of mine had a revolver that he rarely cleaned. Just sprayed it with Remoil. It became stiff and one could hardly pull the trigger. I took it apart and gave a thorough cleaning in al the lock works. The remoil looked like cosmoline.

My son ran a test a couple years ago and rather than razor blades he used steel wool pads and soaked each in a different gun oil or rust preventative and then left them outside on a rusty metal screen for a year. He used Breakfree, motor oil, WD-40, Rem oil. LPS 2 & 3, Marvel Mystery oil and Corrosion-X. At the end of the year most pads were rust powder, a few held together but were coated with rust. Only one, the one that was sprayed with Corrosion -X, still looked new.

That site is about worthless. They push their product, but have a link "what is gun butter" and then prattle on with out letting the reader know a thing. Must be "proprietary".

Corrosion X works dang well. I started using it on saltwater reels close to 15 years ago & quickly started using it on guns, as well. Good stuff. http://www.corrosionx.com/marine.html
