I'm game for a day on LOW. we made it back from Colorado today. funny thing happened. it was in the 50's when we left and -11 when we got back to Crookston.
no elk unfortunately, but had a great time last week. Dave, you and Pam have a little something coming to you from CO, I can't mail it so it will be hand delivered sometime.
got a lead on a job in east polk with the NRCS. it would be a close move if I got it smile
sorry I was so busy at home I could only check in a time or two this last week, welcome new guy, way to go on the pheasants guys! and I hope to meet up with a few guys on LOW.
fishing report tomorrow from maple after Kendra and I go fishing.
the week before colorado I caught 43 crappies and 31 walleyes. or something like that, it was kinda hard to keep count. biggest fish was 6lb walleye. its nice having a computer back!

Well guys I turned the key on the old tucker sno cat last night and the little 318 said "Grr r r r r"

I don't think the engine made a complete revolution, not one crazy

I don't know if the battery is junk or what?

I sure do have a hell of a time with batteries! mad

I've bought 3 big (850CCA) batteries so far this winter.

I guess I need to get it all figured out soon because it's time to head to the big lake with that tracked rig and the 8' x 16' fish house.

I need that tucker to start good in sub zero temp.

spin it with two batteries in series, Dave?
That is what I've always done for jumping in winter or starting diesels.
And I even spun my gas dragster to life that way.
as long as the starter is turning and not stalled, the extra power won't hurt.
If it's stalled ( zero revolutions ) it WILL burn out the starter moter.

I've got twin 850 cold cranking amp batteries in the old plow truck. I just run them parallel for 12 volt.

I'm thinking about double bateries for the tucker.

This crap is getting expensive though crazy

Heck I might just take you up on that Ryan if you are bored.

Sorry the wapiti didn't cooperate with you this year, but from your txt message it sounds like you got to put your eyes on a nice bull, that's what keeps us coming back for more.

I'm trying to plan the weekend a little, I'm thinking I'd like to get the blue trailer home from the cabin as it is likely what I'll use to haul the tucker to the lake.

But if I run to camp chickenbuck to get the trailer I should make use of the trip and throw some firewood on the trailer to burn at home. I could honestly stand to make a day of it out in the woods, between plowing the access road and cutting firewood it could easily be a day out in the woods. Maybe I should head out there on Friday night, light the stove, plow the road while the cabin is heating up and tear into the wood cutting efforts Sat morning? Try to make it home on Saturday at a decent time, possibly move the fish house and the tucker to the lake on Sunday?

Oh god I need a nap, tired just from thinking of it all... grin

well that sounds like fun to me, I don't mind chopping wood as long as I can take a few breaks. Kendra would likely be willing to come up too if you need an extra set of hands. we'll just be fishing all week and taking care of odds and ends around here. I'm putting in for a NRCS job in McIntosh that just opened up

I wouldn't be doing any firewood splitting, I wouldn't even cut to length. I'd probably just throw on 8' logs or what ever is managable. I'd cut firewood length and do any splitting I needed to do at home later on.

I'd probably just drop some dead standing tamarack down by the gate, limb them & toss log lengths onto the trailer.

3 decent sized trees will pretty much fill the back of an 8' pickup box if it's cut to firewood length. I'd be really happy if I could bring home about 6 trees. That's maybe a bit ambitious with this snow depth and the trees being off the trail a ways. We'd just have to see how it goes I guess.

Maybe we could reach far enough with straps to skid them up to the trail.

like most things chickenbuck, we'll just wing it, make it up as we go.

My tucker hauling trailer is out there already, otherwise I'd just take the tucker sno cat out there and skid full tree lengths out to the trail with it (maybe next time).

Good luck with the McIntosh job!

For a while, I had the same problem. Seems like I went through 3-4 a year. Mostly was my fault, leave the head lights on or something.

Buy a boat...you'll go through them suckers like crazy.

Boats, campers, ATVs, snowmobiles, etc, they all just EAT batteries. I only bought 1 in 2010, that means I am due for about a bakers dozen this year.

And Johnnie New Kid got the quiz questions right! Very impressive!

Any of you ice fishing guys use the newer 12v electric augers?

I've been sniffing them out. I need an auger of some sort.
