Scott, did you contact the state guide association about the outfitter? At least the last half of the hunt turned out ok for you.

No Bill, I haven't. There is really nothing to be gained at this point by doing that, and there is a supposed counter offer on the table for another hunt at a comped rate with the guide that was so good. We will see where that goes, if anywhere..lol. Sometimes when ya jump at something thats a little too good to be true, well it just is. It was still a great trip...:)

Tom, if the idea of handgun hunting appeals to you that 375 JDJ is quite a weapon. Bruce took his to South Africa a couple of summer's ago and tamed a Lion with it, plus 9 other various head of game. 270 gr bullets at about 2100 fps is pretty stout medicine and not that bad to shoot. I think it has great possibilties in a carbine too. Alot like a 9.3 X 57 plus a bit...

I would report the outfitter to the outfitter association, if for nothing more than to raise awareness for the next guy to come along so he doesn't get stuck on a bad hunt either.

took the better half fishing today, we caught 2 crappies, missed another 2 bites and that was it. tried out the new underwater camera I got, its pretty cool but I shoulda got a vexilar instead, I knew it before I did it too. oh well. was neat to see fish on the screen smile

I remeber someone making a carbine in that cal, and that is what appealed to me. it's a cool cartridge. One of the few biger ones I know something about.

Smoked a deer with the red pickup this morning, bad hit too.

I had to hook onto a tree & pull my bumper away from my passenger front tire so I could finish the drive to work.

It was on a curve, dark of course, 3 deer came from the right (inside of the curve)

1st 2 made it, 3rd deer was a direct hit. Deer jerky everywhere, it's going to be an expensive one. Bent the hell out of the AC cooler, trans cooler or oil cooler, not sure which it is but it didn't leak thank god. the refrigerant leaked out though. Grill, bumper, driving lights, license plate, upper & lower bumper fashia, fender, probably hood, fender flare... a bunch of mystery plastic... who knows what else. I haven't had a chance to see if the deer rolled down the side of the truck yet.

Spilled my coffee too dammit.

Yeah it's not a big deal, I'll be out a truck for a while during repairs but I don't mind driving the backup truck, not as good on gas but it works.

Did you keep the deer?

Down here, you just ask for a salvage tag and it's yours.

Hit one with the f150 at 70+ mph. Thought the deer wouldn't be worth the trouble but had nothing else to do while waiting for the wrecker so I gutted her out and tossed her in the bad. Turned out to be 100% salvageable. Cost me a $200 insurance deductible and a lot of hassle but there was probably 60ish lbs of meat there at about $3.30/lb....

That bites! Truck can be repaired and you're ok, thats the main thing.

At least you can say you got a deer in 2011, grin

damn that sucks Dave, seems like always something don't it? least it wasn't on your motorcycle.

the other day I had a low tire so I took it in to get fixed, turns out its a cracked rim, an alloy on a 2003 impala. not as bad as yours, but had one of those "damn it, are you serious?" moments that I coulda done without.

No I didn't even go back and look at the deer. It was on a busy highway curve, dark, no shoulder to speak of and visability wasn't the best this morning with a strong north wind blowing snow across the road.

It wouldn't have been safe at all trying to get back to the deer to see if something could be salvaged.

He was a little spiker, I could see that much as I hit him.
