Dave, my cousins in SD swear by Ranch Hand bumpers and grill guards. I have seen the results first hand myself. Splattered deer and no damage to the truck. grin

Dang Dave...my condolences on the truck. Things will work out tho. It's just a vehicle and all the important parts (driver) seem to be ok. Maybe we need to work on "Deer Scan Radar".

Are you going to remove yourself from the deerless thread now? Kinda cheap way to be one of "us" but we will allow it this time.

-14 up here this morning.

No I didn't make the cut off for 2010 so I really was deerless in 2010, unless you count the deer I hit with this same truck last summer whistle grin

They lookk like good ones
The thing with grill gaurds:
Go big or ignore them!
A cheap one just causes more headaches ( and damage ) then it's worth.
A true solid , crash worthy one.
Will off balance some trucks unless it's counter balanced
And then it eats fuel on the highway.

Like anything else, ya pays your money and you takes your choice.

I really like those grill guards/bumpers but they don't make them for my 78. that is what I'd get one for.

I can order a flat black painted one for $900. That is more than I bought the truck for. eek

I took my horns over there from the buck I shot this year. When I cut them off, I split the skull on accident. shocked He's going to do a horn mount for me. Usually I'd just do it my self with a kit.

He's a pretty cool old dude though.

Where is Mike's?

Good! Stay positive through that stuff. It's tough but I believe it comes across in interviews.

Muffy,
Have you checked at Team Industries in Audubon? They make parts for Polaris. Pretty good sized company and it wouldn't be THAT far of a drive.

I always get horn mounts too. I trade the cape to the Taxidermist up here for the horn mount. works out well for both of us.

Mikes Taxidermy is in Andover.

when I was home in colorado I found a set of 8 pointer horns that was the biggest deer I ever killed, unfortunately the skull cap was broke in two, so I'm either gonna have to rig up something, or pop into the new taxidermy shop here in town. hmmm I think I know the right answer to that one.

Muffy, good luck on the job search.Dave,Sorry bout the deer hitting your truck. You seem to make a habit of that every year don't you?I'm just glad you weren't injured and that you paid your insurance.Have a GREAT day and if I haven't stated it before,HAPPY NEW YEAR to all here.

You probably know more about the taxidermy stuff than I do Ryan. But the place I took them to is going to fix mine, mount them on a piece of Butternut, cover the plate in buckskin, put leather cord around the bases, for $60.

That was a good deal IMO. It would cost me a min of $40 to rig up the horns nice and put them on a piece of wood. Someone more skilled than me, with the equipment to do could get by cheaper I'm sure.
