What is the normal wait time? Myself and 4 buddies went to RSA with Andrew Renton and Kei Rivere Safaris back in May (had a GREAT time) and we are still waiting for our stuff. The taxidermist has it all taken care of, we are just waiting on the shippers... To me this is absolute BS as we have ALL paid as of 3 months ago and we are STILL waiting. No one seems to have an answer other than the normal "Its not my fault its so and sos... (pointing fingers)"

Anyone else had this happen?

You are still within the typical wait window.

When did you go? Even though its done, you still have the expiditer to deal with. My son and I went in July 2008, and got the crate in April, 2010. The broker in Chicago really expidited things. I'll use them gals again. grin

Forgot to say, one of the guys in the group received his crate a couple of months ago. He did not have a black wildebeest or baboon though but he did have a warthog.

We went in Sept 08, and had Life Form Taxidermy do the tanning, and handle the shipping(air). We had the crate by July 09. They did a great job, with great communication the whole time. Will definitely use them again, this year.

Have you had your booking agent look into it for you?
Dip and pack or full mounts?
Maybe have Kei River lean on the shipper for you. My brother had some problems with a shipment from Namibia in 2008 and involved the outfitter. They were able to solve locally a problem we could make no headway on internationally.

Just dip and pack, Andrew has been very helpful and lots of emails have been sent, hence the finger pointing from the shipping company.

Has the export permits been issued? I think the Black Wildebeest is a TOPS animal which could slow down the permitting.

Had Reddune taxidermy handle our dip/pack/ship for our animals in '09. They did a great job and took approx. 6 months to get back to US. Be patient. MTG

From beggining of December everything slows down in Africa and only start to pick up again from middle January especially when it comes to government permits and so on. Any turn around time of less than a year is more than acceptable.

I agree with Charles here are you sure all the export papers are in order PH register was filled out after the hunt with clients signature (signed your ph s register) and Black wildebeest is TOPS do they have a permit for it?

The only thing that can be holding things up is paperwork?

We dropped our stuff off in late April and it arrived in early December. Hard to argue with that.

What kind of dollars are we talking for the shipping part?

Assuming nothing is included in the hunt package what would it cost to have 1 Kudu mounted, packaged, and shipped from RSA to Dallas?

I realize most people have more than 1 animal mounted and shipped, I am just looking for a ballpark figure.

Thanks

I dont know about having the Kudu mounted, but I paid the Taxidermist $1,100 for the pack and dip of a Kudu, Impala, 2 baboon skulls, a black springbok, a bushbuck, mountain reedbuck, red hartebeest, black wildebeest. The shipping (if I recall) was roughly $2200, and the amount owed to the customs clearer in Houston, Tx was $448. Quite a bit to get it back over here, and for 7 mounts I am paying $4275. The hunting is the 'cheap' part! Its the rest that is expensive as hell!

Casey, has your whole party now received their trophies or are more outstanding?

Guys, is it more or less expensive to have your trophies mounted in Africa and then shipped to the US?
I'm sure there is quality and sub-quality in SA or here.
