The offer over at accurate reloading about a batch of left hand Zastava Mausers has me thinking, always a very bad thing. While I can probably visualize most of the answers, I gotta ask just how are these?
Are they the exact same as the old Mark X? Would look for a McMillan stock and they seem to only full inlet for the Mark X.
How is the accuracy of the factory barrel? How about the trigger?
Would want a plug and play 7X57, not a money pit. Maybe replace the stock but thats about it.
Don't need one but the price is right and I have learned to grab left handed actions when and where possible.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

Fellas,
I am the one putting it together and while I have never owned one the rem 798s i've held did seem to be pretty functional. i may also recommend PM'ing UtahLefty as he has one he bought when it was the Charles Daly iteration and has done up a nice 35 Whelen. he can beeter attest to their quality than I.
If you determine this is a good deal for your please PM me on this site with your definitive level of interest. I intend to keep the order open until month's end. Zastava is requiring a minimum of 30 units to process the order and we appear to be about 2/3 of the way there as we speak fairly early in January.
According to the US Importer, all rifles must be prepaid in full. A $20/gun freight to dealer charge will apply for the lower 48 and $50/gun to Alaska. US Importer is further anticipating a 90-120 turnaround time. I suspect if all goes well and people are satisfied we could consider a second order this summer with delivery by year's end. But one thing at a time.
Prices I have been given by the US Importer are:
$525 USD for 7x57 & 9.3x62 $600 USD for 375 H&H & 458 Win Mag.
No other calibers are being offered.
Thanks for your interest.
Jeff

Jim,
A. As noted, same as the Zastava Mark Xs. b. I've had several, both Mk.X and Zastava labeled and they were good. Should be very good shooters and in 7x57? Sweet.

I have two rifles on the old Interarms Mark X Zastava actions. They are pure commercial Mausers and no different from any other classic Mauser actions. The Serbians have been making these things for a long time, they are good actions. Mine were purchased as actions only so I can't comment on the barrels. I used a Shilen barrel on one and a Hart barrel on the other.
The 7x57 is about all anyone needs for most hunting, mine is a Winchester M-70. If I was left handed, I would already have the credit card out.

Zastava built Mausers with a variety of finish quality. The Interarms Mark X were pretty decent. By contrast the Rem 798's were pretty rough - in my opinion.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

I have a interarms mk x barelled action but from a long time ago. 375HH in a custom stock shoots 270 gr. barnes triple shocks into 3/8 in. all of the time. It has killed a bunch of stuff on the dark continent. Have owned some others and all shot very well. A little rough but they smooth up very well.

I have several Zastavas. Mine are all factory finished Interarms models. One was a bit rough when I got it, otherwise they are well made and accurate rifles. As to the 798's, Remington brought the barreled actions to the states and added the stocks themselves. I sold a number of them at the gunshop I was working at and they all seemed to need smoothing up, but were otherwise well received by the customers. Bfly

By "smoothing up" do you mean rough bolt travel and the bolt hanging up or just rough machine marks on certain surfaces? I've tried to link to the picture with no success, but if you go here: http://www.zastava-arms.rs/Click on Products > Hunting Sporting Guns > Rifles > LK M70, there is a thumbnail showing the safety. The tool marks in the tang are pretty rugged.

There have been some new Zastava's sold in Australia recently, I understand they have been reasonably well rec'd and that the fit and finish is good value given the price they are sold for (about $AU550-650 for Rh & LH about $AU800), which is about a cheap as you can buy any new centerfire here in Aus.
