For sale, a Mauser 98 sporter in 9x57 with octagon barrel and Lyman No. 35 receiver sight. $875, with insured shipping to FFL.
Pretty nice shape with decent bore with some frosting. A bit of freckling in places on the barrel. Front sight base and swivel ring on the barrel appear to be integral to barrel. Receiver is marked Danzig 1917 Gew 98 and is NOT drilled or tapped. This rifle has the rarely-encountered Lyman No. 35 receiver sight, which attaches to and over the Mauser ejector box/bolt release and has a knurled friction knob. It also has the small, flip-up aperture. This sight has rack & pinion elevation adjustments and a thumb tab for windage adjustments - no tools needed. There is a bit of pitting on the sight's elevation slide top and bottom.
There is a vacant dovetail slot on the barrel rib, where the original open sight was removed in favor of the receiver sight. The rifle wears an old recoil pad and has a copper or brass pistol grip cap. The schnabel stock is trim and nicely checkered. I see no cracks in the stock (the thin lines connecting the grip and forend checkering with the small checkered panel below the receiver are graved lines, not cracks).
