If you guys have answered these questions Ad nauseam please let me know, or point me to a previous post. Since acquiring my 99's, I am intrigued by this scope mount. I've never seen one until looking around the Internet. I understand how the rear mount works/keeps the scope from moving. How does the front work? Is it tapered inside and the scope fits tight against it, or is there some type of rubber gasket that secures the scope. Both of my guns were already D&Ted when I bought them. I am just curious about how they work and the history behind them.

the front does NOT have a rubber gasket, its just a tight fit and the scope slides in until it hits a lip. The dovetail provide a rigid enough mount that the stiths can be shot accurately.

The front tube is just a slip fit over the scope for the most part. The very early K4 mounts had a sleeve with set screws that slipped into the tube. Some of the straight 1" mounts had a ring around the front tube that tightened with set screws.

But for the most part, the tube diameter matches the scope well enough that it is pretty stable.

You have to be careful about getting a proper scope to fit the Stith, not all scopes work (or work very well). Several variations of the Stith also, as well as 3/4", 7/8" and 1" diameters - and different scopes work well for the different diameters.

If you ever need to pick up a scope for a Stith mount, folks here will guide you to the right ones.

Thanks for the info fellas' I don't plan on buying one, I have Weaver K3 on my 99C and knew that same type of scope would fit a Stith. Neat Stuff!
