If a Savage 99 from 1915, was sent to Savage in 1983 and "reblued", is it more valuable or less valuable than if it had never been touched?

Isn't any work done by the factory, a good thing?

Also, I have a couple of guns made for me by Savage (99's of course) that are totally custom (extra special wood, etc).

What are your thoughts on this?

Just curious.

Thanks, I am new here.

Lastly, am I the only one that cringes when I see one of those side-mounted peep-sights on a 99, because it always means there is a chunk of wood missing from under that sight?

Looking forward to this place !

Any reworked Savage 99 is going to be less than an original that never needed a reblue, the question is how much less. A factory rework will be worth more than a gunsmith reblue.

Some folks here have special order rifles ranging from fancy wood to factory prototypes. Would love to see pics!

And last, not ALL peep sights that hang over the side required wood to be removed. But it's always a worry, yes.

Welcome to the campfire!

For pictures, a lot of folks upload their digital pics to photobucket and then put them here. There's a good thread here on how to do that:

Thanks for all the input. I hope this works.

The guns in the top left are 250's. Two of them were re-stocked for me by Savage in the mid-80's, and totally re-furbished. One of those was simply built for me by Savage, when I got robbed. they felt sorry for me and told me to send in some nice wood, and they would build me a new 250. Management in the factory changed in the middle of this (Roland Lussier left) and I had trouble getting the gun out of there.

Most of my guns are either original, or Savage brought them back for me.

Enjoy. I need more. I want a 26" OCT barrel next, from 11,000 serial numbers or less.

My lowest now is 11,xxx, with several in the 100,000 time-line.

I did not lay out what they are. Starting in the top right hand corner:
250 custom from Savage
250, was my Dads.
250, custom made for me by Savage, from Scratch in 1985.
30-30 with crescent butt plate.
303 refurbished by Savage with 75th anniv stock on it, with medallion.
22hp
22hp

On the next row on the right, starting at top:
303 with 11,xxx serial number.
303/410 combo.
300
300
243
308 75th aniv model (I hunt with it).
308 with top-tang safety.

People see my Savages and think something is wrong with me, but I can't help it. I just like them. Would not give you a nickel for most other guns, especially those with an external hammer. They just seem less sophisticated. Also, I am not big on the 99's that lack the schnable fore-end. Same reason. Is this common or do most of us here not care about that? Just curious. Glad to be here. I thought I was the only one :-)

Sorry, I made a mistake.

The list started in the top LEFT hand corner, moves down the left, then jumps to the top right corner.

Not too good after 9pm it seems.

Should have been sleeping.

Thanks,
Bob
