Don't know how it possibly could have happened though, what with the laws saying that you can't take firearms onto school property, and the whole raft of California regulations about only allowing safe firearms (the infamous drop test didn't work here, eh?).

Who'd have thunk?

I'd like to know the make/model of the firearm. Didn't know a handgun would just discharge hitting the ground--twice.

Can't say for sure but it looks like the shooter or kid that brought the gun to school was a young brother.

Yeah, and just for something different, let's make them comply with the Constitution.

And it really ain't a "school shooting" it is a negligent discharge of a firearm at a school.

But the press has to make it sensational.

Yep, like saying the shooting of Rep Giffords was Palin, the Tea Party and conservative talk radio's fault. Never mind the shooter was an evil nutcase.

is the school was doing their job this kid probably wouldn't have felt the need to protect himself by bringing a gun to school.

Local radio is reporting they only wand 1out of 5 kids entering the school. No bag check I take it?

Wonder how many people will be charged in this incident.

Negligent discharge?
Owner of said firearm?
Underage possession of firearm?

Good point, and one often overlooked.

Not all of these kids in tough schools are predatory gangbangers. I can easily envision a kid wanting desperately to protect himself, not unlike most of us here.

I also recall in Elmer Keith's autobiography, Hell, I Was There, the part about his taking a .45 to school when he was a teenager, because his life had been threatened. The teacher just explained it to the other kids, and that was that.
