OK, I have never seen one of these, and would love everyones input. Is this some after-market "kit" or was this something done as a test or short run by Savage? It was not home-made, as there is a patent # stamped on it, and it looks nicely done.

Moving the top-tang safety, caused the lever safety to move. There is internal linkage connecting the two devices.

After-market kit. Several have emerged over the years.

Ditto what Lightfoot said. If you search hard enough there should be several threads talking about these.

I own several and many of the other collectors here own them, I know CTW, 1899Sav, and Loggah all own them and I am sure others do as well.

What does it do to the collectability?

Having never seen one, I am guessing they are rare unto themselves?

Does it ruin the gun, or enhance it for this purpose?

Not sure why it was ever devised though. Seems to be the resolution to a situation that was not a problem to start out with.

Why was it devised? For the same reason that Drew has a couple.. those silly left-handers have trouble with the lever safety.

Its knocks the gun out of collectibilty to the purist but the larger collectors like having them b/c it was an aftermarket option that was kind of neat. It does make for a great hunter if you are a lefty. I would buy another with one if it was fairly priced and the gun was otherwise in nice shape. I have one on a 308F and a 300EG and had a second 300EG with one that I took off and then sold the gun and will put it on a custom project that I am dreaming up.

I would not call them rare but certainly not common... I've probably seen a dozen of them... passed on at least two guns with them ... Steve has one on a 300T, that would be a great little hunter for a lefty!.

In was in a gun store. Next time I go there I will try and get it. They did not like me taking photo's though.

There was one at the Kingsport, TN. gunshow last week in fairly good condition. Second I've seen in past 3 years.

These were made by a company called Sports Equipment Co. out of Lititz, PA.

CTW was nice enough to send me the original directions for installation that would have come with these. There is no patent date on the directions. I do happen to have one off a gun here at the house and the patent number is 2478892...
