Folks - what say you on recommending an entry level, dependable electric call for predators?

Johnny Stewart Preymaster. It's cheap and has good sounds. The problem is it's not remote controlled, but it's still a good call. And from everything I've heard, the Foxpro Spitfire is another good one. Good luck!

I have a spitfire and it's a great entry level call. It has good volume for such a small unit. Good range on the remote too. Holds 24 calls which will be plenty to get you going.

I think the Spitfire is the best use of your money, for an entry level caller. It's upgradeable with more sounds, and has a decent remote.

er1 from flextone is a very good entry level call. has 100 sound that ar wt sounds that imo are the best sound on the market. runs on 8 rechargable aa batt. and lith ion bat for remote. have tried remot to 50 yards, and works fine. first time i took mine out. i called 2 coyotes to me shot one missed the other one. i then took it out in afternoon and called 8 coons harvested five. sound seems not too loud but the coyotes would have to been 1/2 mile fromm call, and they heard it. have had a lot of fun with mine. sounds are very clear and has good selections. a little over $100.

Why screw around with sound cards on the Preymaster, when the sounds on the Spitfire are digital (no cards required) and you can easily download more? All for only $50 more.

How entry do you want to get? If you have a smart phone/mp3 player and some time, you can build one with a couple parts from RadioShack for $40: http://varmintal.com/coy5-20.htm (scroll down after clicking)

That Spitfire seems like a heckuva unit for the money. Hadn't even heard of it until this post but I checked it out last night on the Foxpro website.

Having just spent a week hunting with m Minaska M-1 and a Spitfire I'm impressed with the Spitfire. Just sold a Foxpro 416 and thonking of a Spitfire as a backup.
I bought a Preymaster when they first came out to replace my tape caller and the Preymaster caller a lot of coyotes for me, the sounds are some of the best on the market. The wireless Preymaster looks like a great unit and I wouldn't be disapointed if that was all I had. If your in open country a none remote rig will work very well. I keep my old Preymaster around for just that kind of work. In tight cover which I hunt a lot the remote really comes in handy.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.
Make mine a Minaska

Just bought a preymaster 4 yeaterday at the gun shop. Thought it would be a good intro to an electronic caller. Maby the foxpro would be better, seems like newer tech, but I think the premaster is louder if needed than the entry level foxpro. It's 15 degrese out now, Might go try it out though.

It's all tight cover in the areas I hunt. I like the auxiliary speaker option on the Spitfire even though I doubt I'd need it.

The PM-4 has a problem with the cartriges poping out. It can get very aggrivating to loose two of your three sound banks after you have already started your calling sequence and can't walk over to fix it. (trust me) For that reason I broke down and bought my FX3. Solidstate technology. The Spitfire came out six months later. If I was facing the same decision now, for the same money? No question the Spitfire.
Now if $200 is to much then I would go with the Johnny Stewart Attractor #1 or #2. I tried several $40 callers when I was starting out and in my opinion they are the bestin that range.
