Those that have done it or would know...

Anything special to consider when building on a 600? Any particular problems you've run into?

I'd plan on turning it ADL, in either .223ai / 7-08 / 7 WSM, depending on bolt face. Has anyone done a wizzum on one?

Whadayall think?

I have more 600/660 builds, 4, than I do factory specs rifles, 3.

I just did a 660 parts gun:

660 action, via Drover's factory specs 308.
700 ADL alloy trigger guard, via the parts bin.
700 BDL magazine box, via the parts bin.
700 DM MR 22" 260 barrel, via DennisinAZ
McM MR swirley, via Rick Bin

I don't like the way the 700 ADL trigger guard fits backward on McM's 600/660 inlet, so I reversed it. I used a small piece of steel to make a spacer between the bottom of the 700 BDL magazine box and the floor of the stock. I d&t a hole for the front trigger guard screw in the rear spacer. I don't like how the 600/660 trigger blade sits forward in the trigger guard bow, so I'm going to replace it with a 700 trigger.

I have not done a SAUM or WSM in a 600/660, my current builds are in 257 Roberts, 260 (x2), and 308. I'd like to find another 600/660 donor action with a 0.473" bolt face, 'cause I have another McM Rem MR stock inletted for the 600/660 action and plenty of other parts to make another complete rifle.

If I wanted a Whizzum, I'd not build it on a M-600, but a M-Seven, instead. But then I'd not build it in Whizzum, but rather in Shamu... Especially since the Shamu, was designed specifically for the M-Seven. Starting with a Shamu, would eliminate ALOT of potential problems... smile

In fact that's exactly what I did... I took a factory Shamu in .300, rebarreled it with a M-700 take-off in 7mm Saum - Cut it to 23" - and put it into a McSwirley (Rem Mtn Rifle style) It has worked so well, I've never looked back... smile

I'm done building on 600's and Sevens, after the Montucky hit the scene. Also due to the Ti takeoff, one can get a 700 build light and right, for modest loot,if inclined.

Hint..............

One of the problems with the 600 is the shortened rear tang. A 7 or 700 trigger will not clear the rear tang screw. Below is my Grandson's 600 in 6X47Lapua.

I could have bought a custom for what I have in this one.

I've done the Ti / 700 light thing, and it turned out right. Haven't done the Montucky thing yet....but you know how it is, you were a wayward youth once, too....

Model 700, 78, 40x, 7, 600, and 660 are all the same threads. I know the 700 is the better mousetrap but I do have a soft spot for the 600/660 family.

I've got a perfect 600 ADL stock, about 22 ounces, for you if you want it.

I can't remember if its Six, Mickey, or who, but I know it's a real hand laid fiberglass.

I've never not built for a reason. Lotsa stuff appealed far greater,pre-Montucky.

In the Post-era,I'd not Seven or 600...............

Stick,

What improvements/differences could you envision for a Montucky that might would make it even better?

Stretch the magbox and shorten their throats,so they meld. Offer 1-8" in 223 and 22-250.................
