Caught this Atlantic sailfish of the coast of mayan Mexico...catch and release and never bothered to take any measurements....considering a fiberglass reproduction mount...how long would you estimate this fish to be?

With only your photo to go by....I'd guess 100# to 150#.....

They are fun fish....a sail chasing live bait fish is like watching a ballet dancer....

as tall as you to the bottom jaw tip plus 15 inches to the end of the bill. I'd put him at 110 lbs max

Having been around alot of Atlantic sails over the years, and allowing for the slight bend in the tail, that fish goes better than 8 ft, very nice fish for the Atlantic variety! Congrats! Taxidermist doesn't care about weight, but needs inches, so if you tell him/her 100", you'll be in the ball park. Send some pictures to the shop so they can use a mold with good girth to match that fish.

I'll second the recommendation of Mike at New Wave Taxidermy. He's done a couple fish for me and they still look like they just swam into the room. Amazing work with more attention to detail and effort at matching your fish than any of the bigger shops will do.

Best -
