Thanks for the link Josh. The rod on the rifle now ain't to be trusted 'cause of the grain structure. For the time bein' I'm using a carbon fiber range rod.

It's about time you finished that rifle, please don't take as long to shoot it.
May I suggest you file flat the round "Bead" on the front sight so it does not cover as much target.

Thanks folks. Yeah, I was real tickled when I saw the wood when opening the box. Just knew it needed more than just assembled and shot.
Acctualy Doc, I'd thought about puttin' more traditional sights on but pluggin' the huge dovetail onder the front sight would be iffy at best. Not sure I could get the Express Brown to match. Still like the idea of puttin' on a turtle sight and rear blade though. Maybe one'a these days I'll give it a try.

Get a good rod by all means but you can also get a length of plastic tube and caps and soak the rod in linseed oil,or diesal oil or best coal oil if ya can find it for about 2-3 weeks. The rod becomes so flexible that breakage is much more unlikely.

Very Nice. I've wanted to build one of these kits for some time now, I may have to break down and buy one soon.

Very nice! Put a Hawken together in the late 70's as well as two pistols. Hunted with the Hawken for years. Shot well with patch and ball out to 70 yards. As technology changed, I did as well. Sure enjoyed hunting with the old style. I did switch to a wonderrod due too wood breakage.Good Luck!
