I have two CVA 50 cals with Bergara barrels that I need to set up and would like to hear what powder, primer and bullets you're using that give good accuracy and on game performance. Thanks!

Biden's most truthful quote ever came during his first press conference, 03/25/21.
Drum roll please...... "I don't know, to be clear." and THAT is one promise he's kept!!!

I use BlackHorn209 loose powder, great stuff, no need to swab between shots, CCI magnum 209 primers and the bullets you'll have to experiment with what your gun likes. Mine likes Hornady 250SST's.

I have 4 CVA's and have had great luck with 2 or 3 50gr pellets of 777 Magnum powder, 777 primers and 250gr sst bullets.Have killed at least a dozen deer and never had one run more than 20 yards they'll all shoot under 1 1/2" at 100 yards.

My current go to loads.

For smaller game:
1 50gr White Hot Pellet
295gr Powerbelt Aerotip
T7 primer

For larger game:
100grs BH209
Barnes 250gr TMZ-EZ
Federal 209 Magnum primer

There are a bunch of other conical/sabot bullet combination's I've experimented with but these two give me a soft shooter so as not to destroy smaller game and a heavier load that can take Elk and Bear in lead limited / restricted area's.

60gns 2Fg fired by a #11 or musket primer, under a minie ball lubed with 50/50 beeswax/olive oil or tallow.

Bet it gets real accurate real fast laugh

Along with the BlackHorn 209 powder, you might wanna try Powerbelt bullets. I don't like them myself, but most CVA guns perform extremely well with them. I think Bigblock455 has played with them alot. Maybe he'll chime in.

Thanx,

I believe from what I've heard that these Aerolites have just been released, have you shot any game with them to gauge terminal performance?

no game yet but i shot into wet news paper and put it through a really tough test.
results were poor but seeing how this is a much more tougher test on the bullet than shooting at real game, i kind of expected this.

Take note of the exit hole. That bullet will leave one hell of a big hole for blood to come out of.

Seems as though they are fragmenting, at any rate I would have a hard time recommending a bullet that has no track record of terminal performance in an animal.

I do not consider wet newspaper "a real tough test" and if its falling apart going thru that is sure ain't a bullet I would use. Just my two cents.

Actually the 1.25 gallons of water is a real torture test. The wet news paper when used alone shows great expansion but once a hollow point bullet hits water, its all over with. Will only be able to tell how they perform if i can stick a deer or elk with one this season.
