Im loading for a rem 700 7mm mag and the 168 Berger Bullets. Please advise the loads you have tried that work well for you guys. Please give C.O.L. and bullet seating off the lands if you have that info. Also, how do these bullets perform on large hogs, deer and elk. Thanks in advance.

I'd try 7828 first and then R25

I would try running some VV560 about 67grs is max. I do not know how your rifle is throated but retumbo will work, cannot recall max on it.

I have shot a bunch of the 168's, my go to loads are 72.5 Retumbo and 73 grs of H1000, the Retumbo load is 3025 and the H1000 runs 2980, but the H1000 is more accurate at 500, not by much, these are both Extreme powders and seem to hold their speeds and groups in cold weather, I run 215's and oal is 3.441 in my chamber.

Funny but I havent bashed an Elk with the Bergers as of yet, I have a Sendero with a Kenton turret set up for the altitude, speed, BC etc. but have only killed some Deer with them, both Mule and Whitetail, along with several Yotes, and they all died just fine, Seems like when I get into Elk I am carrying my regular 7 stoked with 140 TTSX, not fun luggin a Sendero over the hills, but a great unit to set up on the hillside.

any of those beasts should work for you. That said I'm just going by what worked with 162 grainers in my gun.

Dakota,
How much beyond max is that 72.5 grain load you have for retumbo? Any signs of pressure?

I got the load from a guy that worked for Best of the West years back, it is actually 73 grs and that was their favorite load of Retumbo, I knocked off 1/2 on my post, I havent run into pressure signe in several Remington 7 mags and one Sako AV, I dont load my brass more than 5 times and the last two firings are just for practice shooting at balloons and rocks but not hunting. I have not checked a manual to see how many grs over this might be, I find most manuals a little on the light side for the 7 mag.

berger says the above data was generated with quick load and a 26 inch pipe.

i load 030 of the lands. i shot a record book rocky mtn big horn sheep with a 168 and re-19, nosler brass. i am changing to h-4831 or H-4831 SC. ALSO i found 250, 9.5m and wlrm almost identical in group size and velocity. the 215m gave higher velocity, pressure and es. rem700 sendero krieger barrel, rem 700 adl. hope this helps.

I have had terrific luck with Retumbo. Seating depth is going to be determined by YOUR rifle. I load three different 7mm rem.mags with Retumbo, anywhere from 69 to 71.5 grains.

Tony.

I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was.
