My brother-in-law just rebarreled a 22 into 17hm2, loves it for minute of crow target shooting. you got a good price for that all in. Is it stainless or blue?

It is walnut/blue.There isn't a mark on the wood,or the bluing. The blue inside the receiver, shows hardly any use at all.Supposedly,it has fired less than fifty rounds.I already have Cooper in 17Mach2 that does 1/2" to 3/4" at 100 yards, but I thought that this deal was too good to pass up.

I have 3 10/22 conversions, using reworked Green Mountain 77/17 barrels, and 3 Savage Mark IIs. I'm a big 17HM2 fan.

67% of the performance of a 17HMR at about 50% of the cost.

Good snag Stubblejumper..

kicked myself in the fanny all the time for not picking up one of the ones that they had over at Big R for $399. when Ruger was phasing them out...

that is a cool little round.. and like Jeff above.. I think more of it than I do the HMR version..

I'd like to see a 30 grain Plastic tipped 22 LR that was affordable..

I got the target gray model with laminated stock and heavy barrel when they first came out...it is the most accurate rifle I own also. I am a HM2 fan.

I figure that since Eley only loads 1 style of 17HM2 ammo, they load them to match-grade specs. So when you buy Eley 17HM2 ammo, you're probably buying ammo that is at least equal to Eley's mid-grade 22LR target ammo. If true, then shooting the 17HM2 at $5 per box of 50 is actually cheaper than shooting 22LR mid-grade traget ammo at $7 or $8 per box.

I bought a [bleep] of that Eley ammo. from Zander's over the years, after the HM2's popularity had waned, for as little as $2.79 per box when buying by the case. I was pretty happy with that. I don't know what the current price is.

Stubblejumper: I am a BIG 17 HMR fan but over the last two years have been shooting friends 17 Mach2's.
I just had to have one!
I have been looking for a Ruger 77/17 Mach2 but can't find one.
Then I started looking for a CZ Varmint in 17 Mach2 but couldn't find one.
BUT, I did find a nifty little N.E.F. heavy barrel single shot in 17 Mach2 and I just love it - I bought it used and for a pittance.
It will tide me over till I find a "repeater" of some kind in 17 Mach2.
Best of luck to you and great find for a great price.
Be sure to let us know how it shoots.
Was that $425.00 Canadian or American by the way - either way its a great deal.

What brand of ammo? All 6 of mine do better with Eley than with Hornady.

Stubblejumper: How were the "conditions" for your recent shoot with the Ruger?
What I am getting at is, could you (we) expect some improvement on a better "conditions" day?
Just a hair over 1" at 100 yards is very good shooting with a rimfire.
I fought my way (bad conditions!) over to Livingston, Montana Sunday and found a great deal on several boxes of 17 Mach2 ammo - I got a mixed batch of Hornady and Remington factory sealed ammo for $2.50 a box (American dollars).
I only wish the seller had more.
I also bought 8 boxes of Remington "Yellow-Jacket" 22 ammo for $15.00 from the same guy.
Man, your Cooper 17 Mach2 is really dialed in with the Eley stuff there at 100 yards.
Come on spring.

If I can't shoot MOA with any of my 17HM2s (x6) or 17HMRs (x6) and the ammo that each rifle shoots the best with, I know that it isn't the rifle or ammo at fault.

Yup. 77/17 HM2 heavy barrel, target gray. It's a great little rifle and it seems to follow me to the range every single trip, regardless of what else is going along. cool My older son and my daughter love it. They compete with each other at 50 and 100 with it. Fun stuff. Eley seems better than Hornady, but I'm still shooting my way through a case of the old Remington offering. I've read complaints about it, but mine puts it group for group with the Eley.

The conditions were 35 degrees and calm,as good as they get where I live at this time of year. The groups that I was shooting with my other rimfires proved that the conditions were adequate for accurate shooting. My 17mach2 Cooper averaged .330" at 50 yards,my CZ452 in 22lr, averaged .370",and my Cooper 22lr averaged .400",all for five shots.I just free floated the 77/17,and I hope to retest it again this weekend. If it keeps everything inside of 1" at 100 yards,I will do a little trigger work, and call it a job well done.If I can't get it to 1",I am going to try a slightly heavier contour Green Mountain barrel.

Stubblejumper: Thanks for the clarification/info.
I hope you get it shooting to your liking.
Back in early 2,003 I bought a Ruger 77/17VT in 17 HMR.
I soon added a "Volquartsen" trigger sear and spring to it - this improved the trigger pull and performance noticeably!
If I recall correctly these parts were not very expensive at all and I did the work myself (NO instructions came with the parts!).
Again best of luck getting that Ruger to do what you want it to.
