For some reason, never owned a 7mm RM (have hunted a borrowed one, though). Been thinking a slippery 160 grain at 3000 fps would shoot pretty flat and carry velocity way out there.
A 120 NBT at 3500 fps would be as flat as a .257 WM and be point and click on coyotes out to about 400 yards.
Thoughts from those who have played with one appreciated.

It won't hang with a 25 Roy,but not much will.
The 7 Remmie is simply a GREAT chambering................

DesertMuleDeer Bought a used one a few years ago with intention of turning it into a 257 WBY. Messed up and shot the thing and darn it could not bring myself to touch it after that. 1/2 or a little less with 150's. It is absolutely mean on deer, with most of the time lung tissue sprayed out the other side. One of those gotta love the performance rounds. Easy to load and easy to shoot. Get one. GreggH

the good old 7mm Rem Mag...one of the most under rated and under appreciated cartridges extant....I like it. I have had a few...140's at an easy 3250...some go faster,..I had one go over 3350 but it was a bit hot.....and with 160's or the 162 AMax at 3000 it's a long range killer....get one...and grab a pound of Rel22....

I own six 7 mags, they have been easy to make shoot well, but I will say you have to step on them to get book speeds, with most factory tubes, been shooting/reloading the 7mag for many years and it is till my favorite caliber, I have a 7STW and a .280 RCBS Imp also but still will grab a 7 when its killin time.Get one you'll like it.

I've had two. A Rem 700 ADL black which I later traded for a 700 BDL stainless.
I took the ADL on my first hunt in South Africa, shooting 140 gr Nosler Ballistic tips. I took the BDL on a second hunt in South Africa and to the Canadian Arctic for caribou and musk ox, shooting 160 gr Accubonds. Its also my wet weather elk rifle here at home.
I've only had a 7 mm RM for about 10 years, and its not my primary hunting rifle, but I feel that it would be good for just about any North American big game.
The loads you mentioned are certainly doable and show the versatility of this cartridge.

The 7 Remmie is simply a GREAT chambering................ My .257 Roy got about 3525 with a 100 TSX and 72 of RL22. The right 120 in the 7 RM should compare favorably.

I was about the same way. I had never owned one til 2009, but knew alot of hunters that swore by them for deer. Shooting 160's in it for deer and the three that I have shot with it fell where they stood. I think it might be as good or better than my 30.06 .

Thoughts from those who have played with one appreciated. I shot a yote with 150NBT. Left alot of it in the field and not much in the truck. I get a hair under 3500 with 120s and RL22. I'm going to try something different this year and see if the velocity goes up a little.

Just get one, you'll love it
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Darn fine round if you ask me. Recoil isn't bad and capable in just about any hunting situation in North America. I've had several including my current one. It was destined to be a donor but I threw together a load and shot it. Nice little clover leaf. I've only shot one group so far that went over 1/2" at 100 yds and I think that was me. It holds half to 2/3 moa out to 500 yds with the 150 gr Ballistic Tip.

I killed my first elk with the 7 RM. I think the 7 mag is one of the best cartridges for western hunting. My cousin lives up by Yellowstone and kills elk every year with his 7 RM. He is not a gun guy and only hunts with his Winchester Model 70, 7 RM. He shoots a mule deer and elk every year with a 140 gr. fail safes (he stocked up a few years ago) You should buy one. Like you said a 160 gr. at 3000 fps works good and 140 barnes at 3200 is more better.....in my opinion.

Get one, you won't be sorry. I have had mine for about 5 years and have had great success with it. Mine is a Ruger MKII and will shoot 150 gr Sierras 1/2MOA all day.

RL25 and 150-162gr bullets are magic in the 7RM.

DESERT- I say the caliber is less important than the gun. i do not have 257 weatherby accumark but it is right there at the top of my list. my 7mm mag adl shot a .112 group last time at the range. my 7mm mag sendero is awesome. do you live in the desert or just hunt there??

Ronin, I Grew up hunting Desert Mule Deer (and still love to hunt them). I agree the rifle is more important than caliber, but have a perpetual addiction to constantly trying different calibers.

I think you definitely need one Just ordered a McEdge for mine. I think 160's will work - or 140's or 150's, or just about any other bullet weight. I've owned several and they normally aren't too finicky. Have some 120 TSX's to try exactly what you stated earlier. Am thinking 3400 should be a breeze in a 24" barrel. Should shoot way flat. If I were doing it again, I'd likely look for a Kimber Montana in 7 WSM and start with that. Just about same case capacity in a pretty handy package. Let us know how you make out with the 120's.
Adversity doesn't build character, it reveals it.
