Where do you guys get your tin for casting? Do you make the alloy by weight or volume?

Rotometals. Wait for a holiday they usually have a holiday discount.

a lot of BPCR shooters get their tin from John Walters.

He sells great wads too. e-mail: thetinwadman @ cox.net (close gaps)

I always used 50/50 solder. 2 pounds of 50/50 gives a pound of tin. And yes, what ET said.

I didn`t think one could get 50/50 anymore.

Where are you buying it?

Picked up some 50/50 solder at a radiator shop.

I don't know how the price of solder compares to pure bar tin, which is now about $15 per pound.

John Walters sells it in 1/2 pound bars, and he's real good at stuffing them in a Priority Mail envelope and taping the heck out of it, so shipping is minimal. He can send 10 pounds or so at the flat rate.

A really good guy to deal with.

I bought some a year or two ago at a plumbing supply house. I do not recall the price as I put it my account.

I second the John Walters recommendation. But my bars from him are 1 lb each. They are easily cut with a hatchet and hammer into whatever amounts I need.

I shoot only 16:1 any more, unless it is a hunting bullet which is usually 40:1.

Over on ebay I'm bidding on 5#s of .999% tin bars. So far I'm leading with $51.00. How much higher should I go?

Unless they're going to gouge you on shipping, $15 per pound tops.
