Saw this a few weeks ago. There's some entertainment value in watching this this guy's flounderings. His business model (for lack of a better phrase) seems to be setting an outrageous price, and then pissing off (and blocking) anybody who makes a fair bid on his rifle. He's the internet equivalent of that cranky old man who lives only to yell at neighborhood kids to stay off his lawn.

Feedback indicates many are happy with his books. Not so many happy with his firearms. Amazing, A+ with over 400 reported. Almost want to post a bid so that I can be added to the "blocked bidders list----in case I forget his GB name . Thanks for the heads up. I will look closer now at feedback as I always assumed A+ was a spotless rating.

There's a lot of shady characters on GB who somehow manage to maintain A+ ratings.

be sure and ask if the numbers match..........
When it comes to choosing friends....I'm at an age where I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Definitely falls into the "beware of seller" category for live auctions, imho. Seem to remember him telling all of us idiots how that was a $2000 rifle, and might take a while but would DEFINITELY bring that much. Now we're doing to $1500. And the layaway and blocked bidders are priceless... Read the tourism section of this link...

Nicely done, Calhoun. If it's on Wikipedia it MUST be true.

I think Don is right-on regarding who that is. When I read his write-up, it seemed familiar. Gone to Fla. Close the deal later. Vindictive with those who would dare to provoke his ire.
Also, is that front mount correct for an 1899 installation? Looks to be askew from the alignment of the scope.

Follow up! heres his response to my request for a block...
"Questions are welcome, if they are from someone who has done basic research on the item for sale.
Dumb question: what power is the lyman alaskan ?
Smart question: has the bore been slugged as some claim 303s were .311. (not true by the way, some Savage made ammo 303 ammo had .311 bullets in the mistaken belief that velocity would be higher)
Serious buyers NEVER are blocked, fools and deadbeats are. thanks."

So, a smart question is one that's known to be false? This hurts my brain..

Also, is that front mount correct for an 1899 installation? Looks to be askew from the alignment of the scope. The only value of his auction is that it is a perfect example of how Stith mounts don't fit properly on 1899s. The front tube is just too short for most scopes to be stable. I believe LBK built a custom tube to mount one of his on a 1899. thanks for asking.

well at least I don't send flame emails to people with no name on them. Your user name is ? Your F/B is ?
where to start: GB probably like me fine as I buy and sell a lot of stuff that brings money in their door.
Antiques Roadshow is populated by real experts so I take them seriously. IF you DID watch it, and you HAD SEEN, the followup shows where items evaluated there were taken to REAL AUCTIONS, you would know that the prices realized were IN ALL CASES, HIGHER than the expert opinions on the Roadshow. But you didn't, and you don't.
Also could you scan and send me a copy of the letter from Gunbroker (on their letterhead) appointing you as the person to tell other members how to run their auctions ?
I rather doubt you work for a major auction house, but if you do, scan and send me a copy of your business card..... I'll at least know your name.
Thanks, Larry I recieved a nice, professional response from this seller.
