If a 25.06 is the gun. I would suggest 110 Accubonds and IMR 4831. The accubonds should give the accuracy and BC to shot a long way.

Its been said that the 25-06 has a little "hidden" magic to it. I have shot one since I was a kid and killed alot of critters past 500 with them. Cooper Rifles consider it one of their favorite "pet" calibers and those boys know how to make iron. My advice is that it needs a 26" tube and a 1/9" twist. I have always been a fan of the 120 grain partitions with IMR 4831 crammed in. But lots of folks are going to the 110 accubond with great success. I also like the fact that it a great all around gun from varmints to elk. You really do have to shoot one to appreciate them.

I have a custom 25-06 with a Remington action and 26" Lilja barrel topped with a Swarovski Z3 4x12x50 BRX. The 110 gr. accubonds are deadly on Alabama whitetails. It's my pipeline and cutover rifle.

25-06, really hard to beat for mid-size big game. I have owned one since 1973 and have taken a ton of deer and several antelope with this round.

I have a 25-06 built by Kampfeld Customs. It is a trued Rem action w/ a 24" Broughton #4 1/10 bbl. I use 61.5gr Retumbo w/ 100gr TTSX's and it will shoot 3300 fps and 5/8" I get a little better accuracy using the 110 Accubond but it does go slower.
My son shot a cow moose w/ the accubond and she fell right down.

The 25s, in whatever flavor, are just flat-out fun.
Of the group, I'm most fond of the .257 Wby.

I like it's short fat brother a bit better...25-284. For some reason, I get about 75 fps more oomph and brass lasts forever. The short action makes it a breeze to carry. I run 100 grain XLC's at a scosh over 3,500 fps. out of a 26" pipe. I have killed several deer and antelope from 400-600 yards. They just crumple. Heck of a long range rig with no muss or fuss. 75 grain Vmax's at 3,750 fps have been hell on long range yotes. My best is 535 on a dead run. It "catches" up to them in a hurry. Flinch

Winchester Brsss, Fed 215s, R#25, stomp on the gas will get the 100's to the 3475 fps mark, and the 115's to the 3200+ mark in the plain jane 25/06.

Imr 4831 and the swift scirroco will shoot between .4 and .7 for me any day of the week and shoot around 3400 fps. Sight in 3 inches high and the gun will hit 400 yards really easy.

I use 85 Grn varment bullets for deer at 600 yards and have never had one to move out of its tracks. I have 2 25-06 rifles and both of them shoot 0.25 moa groups at a grand. I would take it over a 234 or 270 anyday.

All this 25/06 talk on custom guns make me raise the question. What about a TC Pro Hunter in 25/06 26" heavy brl. Can I load and expect to get the same results as you guys are having? Just curious.

the top round in the 1/4 bore class bar none and his 2 lil brothers the 257 Bob and 250 savage are pretty snazzy likewise but in my opinion the 25-06 is as good a long range round as there is available in 1/4 bores.
broken bones broken heart stripped down an torn apart a lil rust but Im still runnin countin miles countin tears twisted roads and shiftin gears year after year its all or nothin Im not home and Im not lost just holdin on 2 what I got...God and Guns

Any shortcomings in a short action Montucky that would preclude a re-barrel to 25-284?

The 284 clones need to be in a full length action for flexibility with long bullets. I re-barreled a pre-64 .243 in 6.5-284. I knocked out the mag block, got a full length mag follower and had the gunsmith mill it for the wide body .284 case. I got a bolt stop/ejector for full length ctgs. I can load just about any bullet to what ever jump I desire.
