sooo, looks like i am getting one in 260, and have some questions. first off, what's the diff in stocks between it and a 700 ? or i should ask first, what's the diff, between a 700 s/a, and a model 7 ?
what pieces and parts interchange between the 2 ?
are they lighter than a 700 s/a ?
and why a model 7 ? what's wrong with s/a's ?

The Remington 7 is a little shorter, shorter hole spacing, because the receiver bridge is shorter than the 700SA, but the loading/ejection port is actually larger/longer.
Barrels, magazine boxes, magazine followers, magazine springs, and plug screws are interchangable. Stocks, and bolts aren't.
Depending on the specific style, they can be lighter, but I think that with a 20" barrel they are heavier than the original 700TI with a 22" barrel.
Why a Model Seven? Generally a little shorter/handier. Nothing wrong with the 700 SA.
I got into Remington 7s because of the 260 cartridge. When I bought my 1st 260, 10/97, the only choices were the 700 BDL/SS/DM with a magnum contour 24" barrel or a 7SS with a light 20" barrel. That 1st 7 led to more 7s, currently 13, with a few more that have come and gone. If I was buying for an action to build on, I'd almost always buy the 700, 'cause there are so many more after-market parts available and often available for less $$. Actually, more than 1/2 of my 7s have been rebarreled and restocked, since I find the 18.5" and 20" 7s to be butt-heavy and suboptimally balanced for me. Swapping to the 22" MR/TI contour factory barrels improves the balance significantly, or at least it does for me.

I think that the factory laminated and walnut stocks are pretty good.
The 673 stock will work, but I don't like the pistol grip geometry, too open for my tastes.
Bansnar/HTS, H-S, and McM all inlet for the Remington 7 action.

10 or so years ago, some of the Remington 7 were cataloged with laminated stocks that were cut to the same specs as the walnut stock, with the big, ugly, schnable. I have several of them around. I think that the 20" barrel stainless 22-250 were only available with the laminated stock.

The laminated stock versions were termed "Model Seven LS". They are no longer in production.

About 3-4 weeks ago i bought a Walnut CDL stock for my Model 7 SS 260 from Stockysstocks.com. They had regular and seconds, i bought a 2nd as it is going to get hunted pretty hard. It's a nice stock but you don't have to look real hard to see it is a 2nd. Don't get me wrong i'm happy with it for 69.95, just sayin. To me it made the cheap looking rig actualy look classy. Haven't got to shoot it yet as i had back surgery 8 day ago and am not up to par yet. Just thought this might be an option.
Good luck Guy

I have a model7 in 7x08 and put an H&S Precision Camo stock on it due to the short LOP on the factory stock. You can call H&S and they will build you a stock to your specific LOP. Great stock.
