I can't even believe someone said something like this. Damn every Mofo deer I have shot ( most at very close range and let me add at the very end of a 3 month deer season ) none were spooked and I used M70's half the time.

I'd say FWT every day of the week. WHO said the crf's arn't as accurate as the pushfeeds?? Don't tell that to my pre-64, it must think it is a pushfeed All kidding asside, FN makes one hell of a good rifle. I know you want us to stay on subject here, but I don't care if it is the Extreme weather, FWT, sporter, or even their older chit like my FN PBR XP 300 WSM. They have been building stuff for our military and swat and fbi snipers for a while now. They make accurate rifles and the quality of their work is exceptional.

I always have liked my Win Featherweights and currently gun one in .280. That said, I think the MR is the best Rem offering.

The weight advantage goes to the MR and I'd buy it and bed it into a B&C Medalist.

I've owned several different calibers in both...and for ME its hands down Winchester Featherweight all the way.!
I do wish they were a tad lighter..but honestly..the fact that they aren't may be why they balance, point, (and pretty much everything else) so well. Here's Mine in .270.....

Nearly half of the New model 70 featherweights I've picked up(about a dozen) had safety issues.. And on one in particular NIB featherweight the safety would even move..

Can't tell you why but the Model 70 Extreme Weather rifles I've handled have not had any quality control issues with the safety's like featherweights..

My factory LSS mtn rifle, scoped weight 7pds 14oz.
My Model 70 Extreme Weather, scoped weights 8pds..

I've shot a few .270 700 LSS mtns rifles that flat suck to squeeze the trigger on.. My .270 EW is a very pleasant rifle to shoot!!

I'd take a .260 or a 7mm-08 in a LSS in a heartbeat. Or any EW!

Between the two? Ruger.

Feather weight for sure. I had three remmy's all are gone now. The only one I wish I still had was my first 22-250

KDK: I've tried them all...hunted with them,too.Most of them multiple times....Anything other than a M70 is pretty pointless to me...but that's just me. I always liked the light little remingtons like the LSS, the MR and the KS.

But I can only carry one at a time...only reach for one at a time.Jumping around to different makes and models in hopes of finding a "better mouse trap" than a M70 for BG hunting has been an activity I just don't have time for anymore..BTDT......I have yet to see any material advantage to anything else,Internet hype notwithstanding.

When the day comes that a M70 safety causes me to lose a 20 foot shot at a deer or black bear,I'll think about it then...in 30 plus years, it hasn't so far.

By this I'm not suggesting that nothing else works, because that's ridiculous.....I just don't care about them.

Right... my short attention span is the problem. Well, that, and hanging out here and seeing all the cool stuff people post. I can't seem to reconcile that whole need/want thing.

With the QC isuues Remington has, I would go with them model 70 hands down.

Yeh the Browning model 70 is a pretty nice rifle.. grin It has been well proven that the pushfeed actions are more accurate than controlled feed. Doesn't mean the CRF rifles aren't great rifles, just means the PF rifles tend to be more accurate.How many CRF rifles do you see in the 1000 yard Bench rest?? Lol

Model 700 LSS Mountain Rifle for me. I just purchased one recently in 30-06. Extremely accurate !

I'd have to go with the SC-built Stainless Featherweight. Pretty things, those ones.

The fit and feel and the smoothness of the bolt are really something that needs to be experienced.

I was about three days away from pulling the trigger on one in 7mm-08, but then a nice little M700 in .260 made itself available, which I promptly bought and dropped into a McMillan Mountain Rifle stock. .grin.

I've run three LSS's (one a M7). Great feeling stocks, but butt-heavy. That is correctable if it bugs a guy by hollowing out the buttstock.

A noisy safety is a legit, if manageable, concern. However, it's becoming one of those things around here where to say so gets guys all horned up. To that I say:

Not even close! Featherweight!!!

I'd get the Model 700 LSS Mountain Rifle because it will be accurate.

Lately, I'd say there's about a 50/50 chance of that being true.
