The basics are a VZ24 action, Shilen #3 contour bbl, Timney trigger. Wood is a Fajen from Midway, purchased a couple of years ago on closeout. Front sight, bbl band swivel attachment, and rear swivel attachment are my manufacture/modification of spare junk. The grip houses a trap for the XS Systems rear sight storage. (I'll try to attach a pic) The trap itself was made from brass plumbing parts (yes, really!) and sits in a horn bezel. The barrel channel is glassed all the way, but the barrel is free floated. Made a rear pillar from aluminum bar stock. The bolt release has a checkered "Brno style" tab, the spring is jeweled. The bolt handle is an aftermarket one, don't remember which one, the body is blued and the extractor is jeweled.
It's claro, with some very nice "tiger stripe" that didn't show up well in the pic. Also forgot to mention, the bottom metal is 1909 Argy, with the trigger bow suitably reshaped.
Pedestal1 - GREAT LOOKING 35 W. How does it shoot?
What part of deep East Tx. you from? I will be in the Carthage area next month. I hope to get in a hog hunt with my 35 W. If not ,then I will be shooting paper there.
I plan to find out how it shoots in the AM. I test fired it after chambering, of course, but have not fired for accuracy. Right now, it's wearing an old Weaver K-4. If it appears to shoot good, I'll probably spring for a K-6. My eyes aren't what they used to be. I live near Trinity, a bit south of Carthage. Always thought that was a nice little town. Hope you shoot a pig or two.
Wonderful piece! Great caliber for any big game hunt. Now, go the last yard to make your rifle a true custom rig and find a smitty to checker the stock for you! As much as it is a great rifle now, the addition of a good checkering job will make your rifle compleat. I love the way the lines flow! Great color and figure! A real classic cartridge! Even a simple point pattern will have the real rifle conoissoeus adjusting their keys!!! I love seeing a REAl rifle. No plastic, stainless steel or Ackley this or that.... Form, line and function with a dash of classic beauty...you've made my day. Thankyou. BT53
BT53 "Where do they find young men like this?" Reporter Savidge, Iraq Elk, it's what's for dinner....
Actually, I was thinking of giving Ahlman's a try. I'm not sure what to do, though. I suppose only the wrist should be checkered-I've never seen this style with anything on the forearm checkered.
Superbly done! It does cry out for a 3X Leupold, though...
I have an original (1908 vintage) Oberndorf factory sporter in 9x57; your rifle is the modern, updated version and clearly demonstrates that class and taste are ageless.
Thank you for sharing it with us.

Pedestal1 - Ain't life with a 35 W gooood! Keep shooting like that and the rest of your rifles will be collecting dust ( red sand in your area ).
If you don't reload, try the Federal 225 grn. TBBC's. They are a little pricy but they are acuurate in my 35 W.
For reloading I have one load so far that seems promising. It's 55.1 grn.'s / RL-15 with 250 grn. Hornady SP's. That load last shot 4 out of 5 touching at 100 yards. I still have a some more loads in the Hornady's to try. I also am starting some with 250 Speer Hot Cores. Maybe this weekend.
As for your shoulder hurting....you may want to try a "Past Mag Plus Recoil Shield". I can shoot all day with minimal pain. I have seen them at Academy for around $25. Your local gun dealer probably has them as well.
