Remmy / Big Green is now cambering the 257WBY. Peeeeerrrrrffectt..... Has been my all time favorite deersmacker for a couple of decades now. Near zero recoil so EASY to shoot with well and lightning bolt/ DRT / Bangflop death on deer.

just pick a bullet that you want to kill with from 100 to 130grs, then pick the cartridge that squirts the bullet in the speed range that you want .. 6mm, 257, 6.5mm... u really dont NEED to get a bigger diameter than that to kill deer..
I am lovin the Quarter Roy myself..

What is it about the .300wsm that you dont like? Since your a handloader you could always throttle it back to .308 velocity.

I bought the gun on an impulse buy, as I needed something lighter weight for this past deer season.
Since then, I have come to realise the gun itself isn't my favorite by any means, and think I could use a standard short action caliber in a lightweight package, or a standard caliber in a "shorter" rifle.
On the other hand..I have about 300 .257 tsx and ttsx bullets, a ton of r22, and 100+ pieces of .257 weatherby brass...the thing is, most of my hunting is done in fairly thick wooded areas, where shots can be fairly close. The .257 weatherby isn't what I consider ideal for this instance..but would work in good shape, I assume.

I might add, i DO NOT have a .257 weatherby rifle right now and have been looking to add another to the collection--the ones in the past where troublesome.
My cdl would only shoot round nose bullets worth anything at all, and the vanguard I had I didn't keep long enough to handload for it.
I considered, another sub-moa vanguard(I like the b & c stock better then the standard vanguard) or trade the .300 wsm for another cdl and pray...neither one of these rifles can be had for fairly cheap(sub-moa or the cdl)

I'm also curious what you don't like about the 300WSM? I've shot deer (and a lot of other things) with it as well as with the 257, and I haven't observed much difference on the terminal end. DRT is DRT... Interesting that you're considering Vanguards, because I own Vanguards in both 257 and 300 WSM. Both have the same after-market stocks and Timney triggers. Picking up one is like picking up the other, particularly when you consider that I favor a 120-grain load in the 257 and a 150-grain load in the 300 WSM. Trajectories with these loads are nearly identical. Duplication? Yes, to an extent. Do I consider it a problem? Not at all.
If you're fixin' to put a hole in something, make it a hole to remember.

25-06 sounds like it will fit the bill perfect I'll second that, or .243.

Kimber Montana in 308 would completely fit the bill...

Based on everything you've said so far, I would go with a handy rifle in 7-08, 260, or 243, in that order of preference and not even consider the bullets and brass in hand.

B8 257WBY is killer at far OR near ranges. The idea of a brush buster or woods gun is pure balderdash. Get the roy, and don't look back.
