Figure 4 looks like Mr. Nosler did not design, nor expect, the portion in front of the partition to break off or separate the way recovered bullets often look, and contrary to what I've sometimes seen stated.

The picture shows very nicely controlled expansion.

The lead from the front half of the bullet in fig 4 is indeed gonzo.
